About this listen
This novel of awesome beauty and power is a moving saga about people, relationships, and the boundaries of love.
Nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American Read
Through Jean M. Auel’s magnificent storytelling we are taken back to the dawn of modern humans, and with a girl named Ayla we are swept up in the harsh and beautiful Ice Age world they shared with the ones who called themselves The Clan of the Cave Bear. A natural disaster leaves the young girl wandering alone in an unfamiliar and dangerous land until she is found by a woman of the Clan, people very different from her own kind.
To them, blond, blue-eyed Ayla looks peculiar and ugly - she is one of the Others, those who have moved into their ancient homeland; but Iza cannot leave the girl to die and takes her with them. Iza and Creb, the old Mog-ur, grow to love her, and as Ayla learns the ways of the Clan and Iza’s way of healing, most come to accept her. But the brutal and proud youth who is destined to become their next leader sees her differences as a threat to his authority. He develops a deep and abiding hatred for the strange girl of the Others who lives in their midst, and is determined to get his revenge.

Great read
Loved this book! Took me a while to get used to Siri telling me a story. Other than that it was great!

I’ve read this book 4 times
I absolutely love this series. So much so that I bought the audible version even though I own the hard copies. This is a story I never want to end and I would feel lonely without.
Jean Auel is hands down my favourite author and Sandra Barr does a brilliant job of telling this story. It’s obviously that she is a true story teller

Best book!!
I read the whole series of books a long time ago and the audible version was just as good as I remembered but I could listen while driving and doing a few other things because I couldn’t put it down.

Excellent series
I read this series when I was much younger and now listening to the audio versions. The story is phenomenal and the performance makes it even better. The numerous sections (in all of the books of the series) of over description/info dumps is slightly distracting and takes away from the story somewhat, but overall this is an amazing series and highly recommended.

An Awesome Adventure!
Every good as reading the book! The character development is engaging and compelling. The audio book was excellently read. Author's level of descriptive detail could have been boring... but surprisingly it wasn't!
LOVED IT!!!!

Amazing book
This was my second time through the book and I found it even better than the first. The narrative brought the time period and the clan to life. The narrative was from several character’s point of view allowing insight into their thoughts, emotions and motivations. The characters were simply amazing and seemed to come alive, with their distinctive personalities complete with strengths and weaknesses. The dialogue was interesting and engaging. The storyline flows smoothly and quickly with lots of action, interesting details, emotional drama and surprises. I had difficulty putting the book down and look forward to the next book in the series.
