Story
Our gut is almost as important to us as our brain, yet we know very little about how it works. Gut: The Inside Story is an entertaining, informative tour of the digestive system from the moment we raise a tasty morsel to our lips until the moment our body surrenders the remnants to the toilet bowl. No topic is too lowly for the author's wonder and admiration, from the careful choreography of breaking wind to the precise internal communication required for a cleansing vomit.

Story
A groundbreaking guide to the surprising source of good health. Genetics and lifestyle are thought to be the two most important determinants of good health. But that is not the whole story. We have a second genome, our gut bacteria, that sets the dial on our bodies. Unlike our DNA, we can influence the gut bacteria, or microbiota, to optimize all aspects of our health. In The Good Gut, noted Stanford researchers Justin and Erica Sonnenburg investigate how the trillions of microbes that reside in our gastrointestinal tract help define us.

Publisher's Summary
People often joke about "going with their gut" but the truth is that this part of your body exercises an astonishing degree of control over your mood, hunger, and general health. Written with the latest research on the microbiome - the alien bacteria that lives in our guts - The Clever Gut Diet also clearly explains what goes on inside your stomach and intestines every day. Discover up-to-the-date science on hunger hormones and learn how our "second brain" communicates with the rest of the body, shaping our appetite and immune system.
Although this is primarily a how-to book, Dr. Mosley uses his own body and experiences as a narrative, sharing his own personal journey of discovery. He explores prebiotics, probiotics, and the impact of antibiotics. The book also includes a comprehensive and delicious menu plan, provided by a leading dietician, which ensures that you will grow only the finest plants in your own internal garden. Finally, you can discover once and for all how to lead a life of optimal weight maintenance, improved physical health, and an overwhelming sense of balance and calm.

The Clever Gut Diet
So I happen to stumble on this one day when it was offered at a discount on Audible. It turned out to be exactly what I needed. In the same year that it was produced I was diagnosed with a "bad gut". I had like five things wrong, so I decided that I was going to heal my self with food instead of meds. Let me tell you this book has made a world of difference. Thank you to the author for a fantastic job.

Good book.
I enjoyed the narrator, his accent and the bits of humour throughout. The book was informative through evidence based science and experience. It was interesting and wasn’t hard to follow the medical terminology. Unfortunately the gut test they suggest in the book isn’t available in Canada. Good book.

My guts thank you…
I had heard a number of these health claims over the years and have experienced both the positive and negative affects of consuming certain foods and adopting healthy habits.
I appreciate the research and practical examples that Dr. Mosley shares. This gives reason and shape to planning a good lifestyle reboot.
I am keen to get my guts back in shape and will use this as a guide to begin the process.
The audio format is very digestible (Wonderful narration!) and I am glad to have PDF to refer to.

If you care about your health get this book
I have been going out of my way to educate myself on health issues, and use my common sense to make up my own mind since "studies" can't really be trusted, and can be skewed to defend pretty much any health claim.
I've read a ton of health books, and this is in my top 3 favorites. Easy to follow and understand, great info and advice. (Google the author, he has like 8 books, just not on Audible, and lots of solid advice.)

Entertaining and enlightening!
I give additional credit to the author for the entertaining rendition of such a potentially dreadful topic. The narrator did not disappoint either--loved it! I want to find more books narrated by Mr. Gillies, he is a true master at this. I have read other books on this subject and think this one is one of the more concise and straight to the point deliveries of all things microbiome, and to be honest, I was very disappointed it ended! I felt he had more to say, or I just couldn't get enough of the fun narration and the engaging manner in which the book was written, I wanted more. Highly recommend if you're interested in what's going on in your gut and how those functions affect your entire body.

10 stars for performance! Great simple book!
I usually don't care for books narrated by english seaking peoople mainy becuse I can't understand them due to such a thick accents but James nailed it, he is and excellent narrator and so funny. He really brings the gut to life even though i have alotof knowledge already, I have had porblems since my late 20's when they took out my so called un-needed appendix, my life went downhill from there. All I ended up having was Salmonella all needed was a round of antibiotics and back then they didnt do any tests they just took it out. Please listen to me the APPENDIX is a very necessary organ don't ever let anyone tell you anything different. I had 3 bowel movements a day before and thought something was wrong with me. Boy have I learned alot in 35 yrs, Very needed organ, now I have to sandblast it out of me! Sorrry if TMI..... BUT TRUE!

Fascinating nastiness and gory details
I liked hearing about all the details of digestion and understanding more about how it all works. I missed some parts from distractions but overall I learned a lot.
