If you’re eating a healthy diet and you’re still dealing with fatigue, inflammation, anxiety, recurrent injuries, or chronic pain, the problem could be your spinach, almonds, sweet potatoes, and other trusted plant foods. And your key to vibrant health may be quitting these so-called superfoods. After suffering for decades from chronic health problems, nutrition educator Sally K. Norton, MPH, discovered that the culprits were the chemical toxins called oxalates lurking within her “healthy,” organic plant-heavy diet.

Story
Before the discovery of insulin, diabetes was treated almost exclusively through diet, from subsistence on meat, to reliance on fats, to repeated fasting and near-starvation regimens. After two centuries of conflicting medical advice, most authorities today believe that those with diabetes can have the same dietary freedom enjoyed by the rest of us, leaving the job of controlling their disease to insulin therapy and other blood-sugar-lowering medications.

Best explanation of how heart disease evolves!
Excellent book that gets deep into explaining the process of heart disease, how it starts and how it progresses. I like that he mentions his references and tells you when there is no science to back up his speculations. Overall I think it’s the most plausible explanation I have come across (I’m not medically trained but I have researched it a lot).
Although the book gets into prevention, it doesn’t get very specific about diet. Ketogenic diet and eliminating process food is mentioned numerous times but not specifically what to eat and what to avoid (like naturally occurring toxins in most plants and vegetables). With diet alone (no exercise other than active around the house), I reversed the starting of my heart disease (confirmed with a CAC score of zero) so something can be done to improve your health!
Overall, great book!
