Publisher's Summary

A detective and FBI agent join forces on what seems like an open-and-shut case - but a new rash of killings sends them on a pulse-pounding race against time in this intense thriller.

Michael and Megan Fitzgerald are siblings who share a terrifying past. Both adopted, and now grown - Michael is a long-haul truck driver, Megan a college student majoring in psychology - they trust each other before anyone else. They've had to. Their parents are public intellectuals, an Ivy League clinical psychologist and a renowned psychiatrist, and they brought up their adopted children in a rarefied, experimental environment. It sheltered them from the world's harsh realities, but it also forced secrets upon them, secrets they keep at all costs.

In Los Angeles, Detective Garrett Dobbs and FBI Agent Jessica Gimble have joined forces to work a murder that seems like a dead cinch. Their chief suspect is quickly identified and apprehended - but then there's another killing just like the one they've been investigating. And another. And not just in Los Angeles - the spree spreads across the country. The Fitzgerald family comes to the investigators' attention, but Dobbs and Gimble are at a loss - if one of the four is involved, which Fitzgerald might it be?

From coastal California to upstate New York, Dobbs and Gimble race against time and across state lines to stop an ingenious and deeply deranged killer - one whose dark and twisted appetites put them outside the range of logic or experience.

disappointed

very disappointing.. the voice for jessica was an old mans voice for some reason .. it was very distracting and then it became annoying.. and i’m all about suspension of disbelief.. but ... it’s was ridiculous.. everything was just so stupid .. why would he climb in the ceiling of a washroom ... why wouldn’t the other porsche driver stop when only paid a pittance .. so many unanswered and just absurd scenarios taxed me too much.. i couldn’t even finish it and i prob won’t buy another

They spin a great story

I just finished this book and I really hope nobody asks me how it ended or who did what when...not sure if I even know. But I do know I loved it and am going to start re-listening from the beginning today! Best book I’ve listened to in a long time. Right up there with JD Barker’s 4MK trilogy. I hope they partner up again - and that Barker has a long and prolific professional life!

When you think you know, you’re so wrong

Delightfully twisty w/ some absolutely delicious plotting... As soon as you think you’ve got it figured, you’re wrong, and it continues in such a way through the entire story.... Reminded me of the De Palma Lithgow flick Raising Cain...

One of my favorites! Very well done. Anything with JD Barker attached is gold. Would love a sequel.

Who did it?

The storyline was mesmerizing - kept me on my toes so to speak. I thought I knew the answer to who was the bad guy but the ending of the book blew my mind. The narrator (s) did an excellent job with the voices and helped the story flow. I will definitely recommend this book to others.
