Who is Ariadne Hui?

  • Laser-focused lawyer diligently climbing the corporate ladder
  • The “perfect” daughter living out her father’s dream
  • Shocking love interest of South Korea’s hottest star

Ariadne Hui thrives on routine. So what if everything in her life is planned down to the minute: That’s the way she likes it. If she’s going to make partner in Toronto’s most prestigious law firm, she needs to stay focused at all times.

But when she comes home after yet another soul-sucking day to find an unfamiliar, gorgeous man camped out in her living room, focus is the last thing on her mind. Especially when her roommate explains this is Choi Jihoon, her cousin freshly arrived from Seoul to mend a broken heart. He just needs a few weeks to rest and heal; Ari will barely even know he’s there. (Yeah, right.)

Jihoon is kindness and chaos personified, and it isn’t long before she’s falling, hard. But when one wrong step leads to a world-shaking truth, Ari finds herself thrust onto the world stage: not as the competent, steely lawyer she’s fought so hard to become, but as the mystery woman on the arm of a man the entire world claims to know. Now with her heart, her future, and her sense of self on the line, Ari will have to cut through all the pretty lies to find the truth of her relationship...and discover the Ariadne Hui she’s finally ready to be.

the audio version of a page turner for me

Really enjoyed it, and Phillipa Soo's narration. Made me laugh aloud a few times. I was also relieved when I thought the book was coming to an end, but there was still 5 hours left. Would recommend, and might repeat in the future.

Loved it!!

The story is a bit predictable, but if you love romance novels then you are used to it. However, the twists and turns that take the story are amazing and will bring you all kinds of emotions and you really get attached to the main characters. For the narration, One word: Exceptional!

Sweet story; great narration

If thought provoking literature is what you’re looking for, this isn’t it. But if you’re looking for a cute love story, this delivers. And the narration is really enjoyable.

Disappointing

DNF. I wanted to like it, but the story was unnecessarily long and the plot wasn’t compelling. Maybe it’s because I’m not into K-pop culture, but it wasn’t worth the money.

I LOVED this!!!

The power of a book...and, of course, it's narrator...

If you'd asked me what I knew about the world of K-pop a few days ago, I would have shrugged, named a few bands I've heard of, a few songs I might recognize. That's about it. Me, a music enthusiast with nearly 5 decades of everything musical under the sun in my playlist collection. But with that much time under my belt, I think I'm a little slower than I used to be to experience what's newer. (Altho, admittedly, I have a TBLT list of groups & artists & songs that I want to explore...someday.) Midway thru this book, though, I went to my music streaming service with the intent of finding out what I've been missing out on with K-pop. I've been missing out on A LOT.

That's the power of a book, of this book. New worlds open up. New cultures become familiar. New people, fictional or not, become close friends & acquaintances, people who share themselves & their vulnerabilities, who show that we have so many things in our life experiences that may look different, but are actually deep down very similar.

Thanks to Lily Chu, there's now a world where Ari & Jihoon exist, and I don't want to go back to a time where they didn't. This book was lovely, the characters raw & real & imperfect & human. This is one of those books that make you want to fall in love with falling in love, even if it means you have to weather the hurts along the way. It's a 5 out of 5 ❤'s.

And then there's the narration. Phillipa Soo did such an amazing job of voicing both characters, bringing Ari's vulnerability & soul-searching journey to life & seasoning it with Jihoon's sweet, contemplative presence. Phillipa Soo makes this amazing book go full-on HD. Will I search out other titles Soo has narrated just because she has narrated them? Most definitely!

All-in-all, this book/audiobook is a win. A total in-your-feelings catharsis. Fingers crossed we get some side stories from this. (Please please please!!!)

If you're reading this & you're not the author, do not pause. Go listen to this title.

Now.

Right now.

If you're reading this & you ARE the author and/or narrator, my sincere thanks for your hard work & for putting this out there for us to enjoy. ❤❤❤ Thank you thank you thank you!!!

Lily Chu does it AGAIN!!!

Such a fun book! She created another book that gem with The Comeback. And I’m also convinced she is clairvoyant because the coincidences between what she wrote most likely ages ago, and what recently happened with BTS! 🤯 I’m now impatiently waiting for her next book, and hoping for a Kit/Hanna sequel 🫰

I love the Lily Chu, Phillipa Soo power couple. Keep them coming!!

CANNOT stop listening!!

This was my second Lily Chu audible book and it was fabulous. Great well- developed characters that you root for. Fast paced. Sucks you right in to their world and won’t let go. Performance was amazing - definitely going to keep both this author AND this narrator on the top of my list. A KEEPER!

Highly recommended as a Kpop fan!!

What a refreshing listen!! I appreciate the light that Lily Chu shines on Asian voices and culture. A great storyline especially with the main character’s awakening to the world of kpop and idols. As a fan myself, I loved how the way the author almost mirrored my own journey into kpop (minus the relationship to a kpop idol lol). Lily Chu and Phillipa Soo did it again!! 🤩

Surprisingly Good

I am normally not drawn to the romance genre, but I really enjoyed this book. The writer is smart and funny with many “laugh-out-loud” moments and the plot is creative. A great summer read.

Loved it!!!

I normally never write reviews for anything.
But this the second novel Lily Chu has made me fall in love with. Please keep writing these stories. Overall the narrator was engaging, and the story did have twists that a traditional romance novel would over look. I’d recommend this to anyone who loves romance.

great performance - meh story

Phillipa Soo did a great job & if she had not I probably wouldn't have finished the book. It started off okay but then it started to drag, I usually listen to most audible books at a little faster speed but 1/3 way in I increased the speed to 1.2. At the 1/2 way point I was listening at 1.3 & the last 1/4 was at 1.4. I would much rather listen to Ms. Soo at regular speed but the 2 main characters were becoming irritating & the story was sooooo draggy. Thank goodness for her roommate Hanna & the lawyer guy Alex. Everyone else was so stereotypical. Also glad this was in the Plus catalog & didn't use one of my credits for it.
