Malcolm Fox works for The Complaints. He's just had a result, and should be feeling good about himself. But he's middle-aged, sour and unwell. He also has a father in a care home and a sister who persists in an abusive relationship. In the midst of an aggressive Edinburgh winter, the reluctant Fox is given a new task. There's a cop called Jamie Breck, and he's dirty.

Problem is, no one can prove it. But as Fox takes on the job, he learns that there's more to Breck than anyone thinks. This knowledge will prove dangerous, especially when murder intervenes.

Excellent read

Enjoyed it from beginning to end! Thoroughly engaging. Almost as good as a Rebus novel.

Lame

The first few chapters really set up a story with possibilities. The rest of the book was like watching a balloon sputter around erratically, ending with a soft flop on the floor. On a separate note, I am North American and I have a strong grasp of the English language, but the narrator's Scottish accent takes a second degree of intellect to understand if you are not a native speaker. This is the first book I've listened to at 1x speed. This is fine, but overall it did not satisfy my preference of a strong and listenable story.
