Publisher's Summary

After 26,000 years the Void Wraith have returned. The Eradication has begun.

Mankind’s outer colonies are disappearing. Without warning. Without a trace. Fleet command chalks the attacks up to pirates, but Captain Dryker of the UFC Johnston isn’t buying it.

Defying command, he leads his misfit crew into hostile territory in search of answers. They encounter the mythical Void Wraith, an unstoppable legend whispered by the first race. After 26,000 years the Void Wraith have returned to begin the next Eradication. Their technology is superior, their motives unclear.

Humanity cannot stop them. Not without help. Captain Dryker’s only hope is to forge an alliance with mankind’s greatest enemy, the savage Tigris.

One maverick captain, an unlikely crew, and an aging vessel are all that stand between humanity and the Eradication.

Mass Effect

The 1st three books where extremely similar to the Mass Effect games main story plot.

Not a good feel

I’m going to return this book, I listened for about two hours and I cant get into this story.
First off, this narrator is not good for a military scifi style book , he has a good voice but he needs to have more expression, right now it’s pretty much just mono tone with little bits of octave changes at the start and end of sentences, he doesn’t capture that military style bering like RC Bray or Ray Porter. I think this narrator would be good for one of those litrpg books, he needs to work on his performance and he would probably be similar to Nick Podel from Chaos Seeds.

Now all that being said I don’t think a legend like RC Bray would make this a great book, perhaps he could make it a decent book. The story so far is just boring and flat, I just can’t get excited to continue on. Now keep in mind I only listened to this first book for a couple hours so maybe the books get better, I will not know. I was hoping for a Mass Effect(game) feeling book, but this one is not that.

It's pretty good

I would say that the writing gets progressively better book by book. I enjoyed the story, although preferred books 4-6 more than 1-3

Fun story

It’s a fun story. There’s not too much unnecessary drama, a bit of cannibalism, a bit of wing commander, a bit of mech warrior and a bit of power rangers (seriously you have a alien spirit helping out 5 pilots of mixed race, 2 females 3 males very power ranger like. Lol)

I'm not sure I can do this.

At 43 hours, it seemed like a great value for the credit. And don't we all love military science fiction? So the first alien race we meet are cats. They have long tails. Or maybe they're lions, because they also have manes and are organized into prides. And they're called the Tigris. They growl and meow. And they live in the Pantherine System. And their goddess is Tigrana. Really?

Is this a serious book, or an episode of Futurama?

I haven't returned it yet, but I'm already close with 40 hours left to go. Don't think I'll make it.

Parody, YA or stupid?

First 20 mins: Ship skims surface of a star for fuel, young commander’s CO walks off bridge during a hostile alien encounter, then defends ship against cat-people, called the ‘Tigress’, with gunpowder weaponry.

Afterward, commander takes aim at an asteroid with ship’s main weapon ( which accelerates slugs to ‘lethal velocity’) to blow part of the asteroid apart so the fragments will intercept hostile ship, instead of just shooting the enemy ship...

Then he leads an heavily-armed marine team with an insubordinate Seargent, down to a colony, wearing nothing but his ship suit and a sidearm.

After nearly getting himself killed and being saved by a marine, the Seargent then respects him....

There is so many things wrong with this tale, I just couldn’t listen to this nonsense anymore. This is like pulp fiction for children or something, not a serious SF military epic.

Good story, painful execution

60 hrs for one credit... but boy did the first two books hurt.
There really should have been a military person reviewing the tactics early on in the writing process.

Liked it

I thought that Captain Nolan should have been a commander after the first war. I liked it.
