Dashing young Edmond Dantès has everything: a fine reputation, an appointment as captain of a ship, and the heart of a beautiful woman. But his perfect life is shattered when three jealous friends conspire to destroy him. Falsely accused of a political crime, Dantès is locked away for life in the infamous Chateau d'If prison. But it is there that Dantès learns of a vast hidden treasure. After 14 years of hopeless imprisonment, Dantès makes his daring escape and follows his secret map to untold fortune. Disguised now as the mysterious and powerful Count of Monte Cristo, Dantès seeks out his enemies - and nothing will stand in the way of his just revenge.

Magnificent
John Lee's narration may take a chapter or two to grow on one, but he is precise and crisp and a pleasure to listen to. The text, of course, is incomparable: a work of inimitable genius; an incredibly intricate and detailed but eminently readable opus that tackles with grace, wit, and beauty the depths and heights of humanity. Absolutely magnificent.

An Entertaining Rendition of a Classic
Loved this version of a classic novel. We listened to it as we travelled around France and continued to listen when we returned home to Canada and were driving long distances. The narration and characterization were excellent; it was clearly articulated and very easy to differentiate between the many characters.

Great Book
It is long, but a blast, the narrator runs through many accents across Europe and handles them all quite well. #Audible1

This book has it all.
Hooked right from the start. This behemoth of a book just doesn't let up, and you won't want it to. You'll have to draw out a character map to keep everyone straight.

John Lee is a Legend
The Count of Monte Cristo is my favourite book. John Lee is my favourite narrator. It's a match made in heaven. Dumas' prose and Lee's talent for accents, every chapter is a joy to listen to.

A top notch performance of a classic
John Lee executes a masterful reading of this signature work by Alexandre Dumas. At nearly 47 hours long this is a truly epic adventure and Lee keeps his audience riding along and engaged with the characters with his excellent sense of pacing and intonation and diction. Lee clearly has some expert vocal training.
The recording quality is excellent.
I can't say enough about the quality of this book. If you want an excellent audio version of The Count of Monte Cristo, look no further.

Very well narrated / One of the greatest books eve
One of the Best books I have ever read. Great story of a man young naive and nice who gets betrayed and seeks his revenge in a intricate manner. The book is very different from the movie filled with adventure, action and romance. Its worth a second - or third- reading
