Publisher's Summary

Honeymooners at a posh resort receive an ominous warning with deadly consequences in the latest gripping, twisty psychological thriller from New York Times bestselling author Sophie Hannah.

Jane and William are enjoying their honeymoon at an exclusive couples-only resort…

…until Jane receives a chilling note warning her to “Beware of the couple at the table nearest to yours.” At dinner that night, five other couples are present, and none of their tables is any nearer or farther away than any of the others. It’s almost as if someone has set the scene in order to make the warning note meaningless—but why would anyone do that?

Jane has no idea.

But someone in this dining room will be dead before breakfast, and all the evidence will suggest that no one there that night could have possibly committed the crime.

I liked it

I can see why some people may not like it but i did enjoy it compared to the last one I read. I’m not going to lie I love Sophie Hannah’s earlier books way more, they were the reason I got into reading almost all of her writing:) If you really didn’t like the plot or the twist or whatever you want to call it, that just means you are not into Sophie Hannah’s signature “twists” and her work overall because there is a motif that goes throughout all her work - I also enjoy old fashioned slow paced police work narration, so I’m not bothered by lack of crazy high pace.

Spoiler alerts

This was not a page turner, nor did it really grab me. A good murder. Mystery has the smoking gun and the aha moments that we crave. This had neither. The supposed smoking gun moments were kind of silly, like the scratched out word. Everyone knows you would just put a Y in front of the rest of the word to change it…so that was ridiculous. The ‘game’ and the mixing up of names- just strange. I don’t know- overall there are holes and contradictions. Explaining why they tried to be friends, why Will wouldn’t want the baby- all of it is just unrealistic. Why Will wouldn’t be able to say who was the killer… why jane’s father was okay with all of it at the end…. Why the killer would just admit everything… come on…. Wtf.
