Interesting history . . .
. . . I wouldn't call the book "captivating" history, but it was interesting. I'm a little bit obsessed with Cuba right now and found the historical information enlightening. The lovely citizens of Cuba have endured a lot of brutal regimes over the years. I sure hope that relations between US and Cuba normalize soon. (If we can be friends with a country like Saudi Arabia, we can certainly end the blockade against Cuba, right???)

Simply Amazing
This book covered a lot of information about Cuba in all realms and gave me a lot of very helpful background information. At times was a bit laborious but a reasonable trade off for the good information it provided.

Great
The book mainly describes the differences between the llano (that being the middle-class urban based revolutionaries) and the sierra (Castro-led guerillas in the mountains). It tries to assert the importance the llano, pointing out Frank Pais' role in the movement, the llano dealing with the Cuban exiles in Mexico City and Miami whom were affiliated with the traditional parties, etc.
