Story
Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed", usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control, and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

Story
A master storyteller at his best - the O. Henry Prize winner Stephen King delivers a generous collection of stories, several of them brand-new, featuring revelatory autobiographical comments on when, why, and how he came to write (or rewrite) each story. Magnificent, eerie, utterly compelling, these stories comprise one of King's finest gifts to his constant fan. "I made them especially for you," says King. "Feel free to examine them, but please be careful. The best of them have teeth."

Peaceful suburbia on Poplar Street in Wentworth, Ohio, takes a turn for the ugly when four vans containing armed "regulators" terrorize the street's residents, cold-bloodedly killing anyone foolish enough to step outside their homes. Houses mysteriously transform into log cabins, and the street now ends in what looks like a child's hand-drawn Western landscape. Masterminding this sudden onslaught is the evil creature Tak, who has taken over the body of an autistic eight-year-old boy, Seth Garin.

Publisher's Summary
A "wondrously frightening" (Publishers Weekly) tale of terror and number-one national best seller about a writer's pseudonym that comes alive and destroys everyone on the path that leads to the man who created him.
Thad Beaumont would like to say he is innocent. He'd like to say he has nothing to do with the twisted imagination that produced his best-selling novels. He'd like to say he has nothing to do with the series of monstrous murders that keep coming closer to his home. But how can Thad deny the ultimate embodiment of evil that goes by the name he gave it - and signs its crimes with Thad's bloody fingerprints?
The Dark Half is "a chiller" (The New York Times Book Review), so real and fascinating that you'll find yourself squirming in Stephen King's heart-stopping, blood-curdling grip - and loving every minute of it.

The King Of Horror Does Not Disappoint
Although this story is over 25 years young, it still holds the reader like none other.
Stephen King has an uncanny knack for taking the reader on a thrilling, insightful, and congruent journey. The Dark Half is one of my favourites by him.
The character development is one of the best and rivals todays bestsellers. The story leads the reader into the interpersonal relationships between the protagonist and antagonist, and every character who has contact with them. One thing that I truly appreciate about this book is you find yourself feeling for not only the protagonist, but antagonist as well. And you develop an empathetic relationship with him...or her. You’ll have to read it (or listen in this case) to find out!
The performer is stellar. I’ve listened to a few books narrated by Grover and he is great with finding different voices for each character, and ensures that you understand and appreciate their personality traits and their stories.
If you want a story that holds your mind and is something that will keep your ready for more, this is your book.

Great Book, Fantastic narration.
This book is another great entry in Stephen Kings bibliography. It is dark and chilling, the King brand bread and butter. This story manages to pull from the paranormal to the mundane just enough to dream that this nightmare might hold some form of dark truth. Knowing the relation to this book and King's own dealings with one Richard Bachman allows for emotions in the books to have their tendrils cling to our own reality.
In my mind, this audiobooks grandest star and greatest pull, however, lies in the Narration by Grover Gardner. The way he spoke, and enunciated the words and thoughts of the main characters; and the subtle, yet mesmerizing, way he is able to show the progression of the character's situation; had me hooked on each syllable.

Great story but performance is sub-par.
Reader was a little bland. I have another copy of this audiobook read by Chuck Benson and it is a much better performance. The story is still excellent no matter who reads it but I prefer the one done in the 90’s.
