Publisher's Summary

Debbie Ford explains that the dark side of our personality should not be hidden. By denying our dark side, we reject these aspects of our true natures rather than giving ourselves the freedom to live authentically. Here she shows that it is possible to acknowledge and accept our so-called weaknesses, proving that these qualities may be important, hidden strengths. For example, perhaps some "selfishness" can save us from exhaustion and resentment.

Full of illuminating stories and practical exercises, Debbie Ford shows us how to reconcile our darker impulses and find the gifts they offer. Your life will be transformed when you unconceal, own, and embrace your shadow.

Great book and I would combine it with others

I started this book and was guided to stop at the point in the book where you start to work with your Shadow. Now up to this point the book was great! Go through all the lessons and work through them even if it takes you weeks to do it. Then pause it and read: Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself: How to Lose Your Mind and Create a New One all the way to the point of the meditations or the last three hours if you're listening on Audible. Then go back and finish this book. It's quite the push in the right direction! If you want you can add the book Nothing Changes Until You Do. Great sequence of books I've found really works!

Game changer!

This was a difficult book to listen to and it took me some time only because it is hard to look at your shadow side, weaknesses and all. The path of learning to love and accept yourself COMPLETELY is one that we will all continually be on and never come to the end of. This book is a great beginning and guide to creating a life of love and fulfillment.

That Which Does Not Kill You Will Make You Strong

If you could sum up The Dark Side of the Light Chasers in three words, what would they be?
Challenges are Valuable

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Dark Side of the Light Chasers?
The example of the discovery of the golden Buddha that had been covered with clay to hide it in plain sight from those who would plunder it for its monetary value while defaming its more profound spiritual value.

What about Debbie Ford’s performance did you like?
By performing this herself, she was able to add a personal dimension that helped me better understand not just the concepts that she was trying to explain, but also the emotional context that inspired them and gives them power.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
If we do not stop complaining and take the time to search for and find the gift that is hidden in every trial in life, we will get double smacked by the experience, because we will continue to suffer needlessly and also won't be able to receive and enjoy the valuable lessons that are there as the seeds of our future growth and prosperity.

Any additional comments?
This is one of those love it or hate it kind of books. It invites you to stretch yourself, and to see life from a very different perspective. If you choose not to absorb and embrace its concepts, you will be choosing the short end of the stick. GREAT BOOK! Well worth the read.
