Publisher's Summary

Ishmael Jones is someone who can't afford to be noticed, someone who lives under the radar, who drives on the dark side of the road. He's employed to search out secrets, investigate mysteries and shine a light in dark places. Sometimes he kills people.

Invited by his employer, the enigmatic Colonel, to join him and his family for Christmas, Ishmael arrives at the grand but isolated Belcourt Manor in the midst of a blizzard to find that the Colonel has mysteriously disappeared. As he questions his fellow guests, Ishmael concludes that at least one of them - not least Ishmael himself - is harboring a dangerous secret, and that beneath the veneer of festive cheer lurk passion, jealousy, resentment and betrayal.

As a storm sets in, sealing off the Manor from the rest of the world, Ishmael must unmask a ruthless murderer before they strike again.

Great Supernatural Mystery Performed Wonderfully!

I'm a huge fan of Simon R. Green, so I was expecting a lot from this book and I was not disappointed! His usual humour was present, along with compelling characters, and a well defined plot. Gildart Jackson's performance was phenomenal! His ability to alter his voice to portray all of the various characters so that you could tell all the characters apart was truly exceptional, especially as many narrators/voice performers in my experience lack this talent. I will definitely be listening to more Ishmael Jones mysteries in the future!

Loved it

Stop reading reviews and just download it. If you are a fan of the classic mystery setup of a group of interesting characters trapped together trying to work out who the murderer is then you will like this book. Great narration as well.

Good Beginning, Rapid Decline

Starts out as an intriguing English-country-house-mystery with a novel twist right up front, then descends into improbable madness. Needless destruction. Inconsistent super-powers. Stupid decisions by major characters. Wildly unrealistic emotional responses to gory deaths of family members. A story not even Gildart Jackson can make worthwhile.
