All good things must come to an end, Constant Listener, and not even Stephen King can write a story that goes on forever. The tale of Roland Deschain's relentless quest for the Dark Tower has, the author fears, sorely tried the patience of those who have followed it from its earliest chapters. But attend to it a while longer, if it pleases you, for this volume is the last, and often the last things are best.

Story
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed", usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control, and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

Publisher's Summary
Soon to be a major motion picture starring Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba!
In this third volume, several months have passed, and Roland's two new tet-mates have become trained gunslingers. Eddie Dean has given up heroin, and Odetta's two selves have joined, becoming the stronger and more balanced personality of Susannah Dean. But while battling The Pusher in 1977 New York, Roland altered ka by saving the life of Jake Chambers, a boy who - in Roland's world - has already died. Now Roland and Jake exist in different worlds, but they are joined by the same madness: the paradox of double memories.
Roland, Susannah, and Eddie must draw Jake into Mid-World and then follow the Path of the Beam all the way to the Dark Tower. Along the way our tet stumbles into the ruined city of Lud, and are caught between the warring gangs of the Pubes and the Grays. The only way out of Lud is to wake Blaine the Mono, an insane train that has a passion for riddling, and for suicidal journeys.

There are other worlds than these!
This was the book that caught my eye the most from my grandmother's dresser book stash (Rose Madder second). Having just finished the Harry Potter series I was left with a hole. HP was the first series I finished and it had went on for 70% of my existence. This was in 2007 and I am just now reading the Dark Tower now after my grandma's recommendation to wait. I feel like this series is best experienced as a treat ; after exploring the many other worlds Stephen King has created for us. Or admittedly you could just Google the list of recommended books that go along with this series as they are referenced.

A ride from start to finish.
If you loved the first two books of the series, you'll be happy to know that King continues to impress with his third installment of this strange, beautiful journey. I have completely fallen in love with the characters and their relationships. Stephen King does an incredible job of creating captivating villains that actually feel dangerous. Frank Muller narrates the story in a way that brings life to the characters and makes the listener feel immersive. On to Book 4!

The Dark Tower saga keeps surprising me
I thought by now, 3 books into this story, that nothing would surprise me... I was wrong! The new villains are amazing. I see a lot of modern stories borrowing from these (several come to mind like characters from walking dead and The 100). Can't wait to continue the journey of Roland and his companions! P.S. This is my first audiobook in Audible, what a great way to start :) #Audible1

Good narrator, good story, bad production
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, after warning them that the quality of the recording is not up to par with other recent audiobooks
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Dark Tower III?
When Jake was kidnapped by Gasher and taken underground.
Which character – as performed by Frank Muller – was your favorite?
Gasher
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It's too long for that
Any additional comments?
It is unfortunate that the recording features constant white noise in the background. Book II and Book IV also has this annoying distraction. The recording is pieced together in a distracting way. However, the story is good and the narrator is fantastic; otherwise, I would not keep going. At this point, I'm invested in this well above average book series.

Draws you in and leaves you hanging
What did you love best about The Waste Lands?
I enjoyed the characters and the way King just draws you into his story. This was a fantastic followup to the Drawing of The Three. I did not like the ending in that it did not feel like a good conclusion, with the conclusion really being with the beginning of Wizard and Glass.
What does Frank Muller bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His voices and tone give an amazing energy to the characters of Eddie and Roland.
If you could take any character from The Waste Lands out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Susanna Dean. She just seems like an amazingly strong person.

Frank Muller shines.
Where does The Waste Lands rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I would say that this ranks in the top 10 easily. I have almost 100 titles in my audio library right now so I don't say that lightly.
What did you like best about this story?
Frank Muller. The story is astounding but his narration outshines even the intricate nuances of Stephen King's Midworld.
What about Frank Muller’s performance did you like?
His voices are so convincing and effortless. Even with as many characters as there are in this series, you could listen to Frank's performance with zero dialogue attribution and it would be entirely understandable.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I honestly can't say. It would spoil things which I do not intend to do for you. Pay close attention in the last "part" of the book - you'll be glad you did when you read the next one.
Any additional comments?
This book is a gem. The narration cements its place in my top 10 list.
