Publisher's Summary

Soon to be a major motion picture starring Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba!

In this fourth volume, Roland, Eddie, Susannah, and Jake survive Blaine the Mono's final crash, only to find themselves stranded in an alternate version of Topeka, Kansas, one that has been ravaged by the superflu virus. While following the deserted I-70 toward a distant glass palace, Roland recounts a story about a seaside town called Hambry, where he fell in love with a girl named Susan Delgado, and where he and his old tet-mates Alain and Cuthbert battled the forces of John Farson, the harrier who - with a little help from a seeing sphere called Maerlyn's Grapefruit - ignited Mid-World's final war.

My favorite of the series so far!

Wonderful story and another masterful performance by Frank Muller. It will be strange to continue without Frank's voice, but the tower waits got no one.

A favourite of this series

There’s not enough room for me to list all the things I enjoy about this audiobook.
Frank’s narration is an absolute treat, and brings the characters to vibrating life. Even better upon second listening 🧡

Flashback

This is a terrific love story on its own, but a huge wedge in the middle of the story of Roland's ka-tet, at least the one I was invested in. While written in that intimate language I love King for, sensibly paced with lively characters, they are all new characters I had to get reinvested in. It wasn't what I signed up for, and I had a very hard time finishing this book. If this was its own thing, a spin-off or prequel, I probably would have loved it, but it is neither. I would have skipped it entirely if the book didn't begin and end with the characters I actually cared about.

Best book so far

So far my favourite book in the gunslinger epic… listened to it back to back twice to make sure every detail was captured.

My favorite in the series

I love this story like no other. It’s the one that I fall headlong into every single time. Beautiful storytelling, engrossing and just an absolute pleasure to listen to. Narrator is one of my favorites as well.

Beautifully written!

In this book we learn a little more about Rolands past. It is inspiring and heartbreaking! It is everything you expect from a book that belongs to the greatest series ever written!

Least favourite of the Dark Tower books

It is pure torment sitting through this narration and this book ... my least favourite SK book and I am sorry but listening to this narration is like listening to nails on a chalkboard.
The story feels forced but it has to be read to follow the DarkTower series. I know the narrator has passed away and I am sorry , I wish someone would just READ the book instead of trying to act it out.
Just my opinion.

He truly is...The King!!

I listened to this story and loved it. Cried a little a certain key moments. Never have I thought that the Dark Tower series would be this good. Stephen King is a master of the writing art and Frank Muller is the Master reader. Thank you to both for this grreat story!!
