About this listen
Soon to be a major motion picture starring Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba!
In this fourth volume, Roland, Eddie, Susannah, and Jake survive Blaine the Mono's final crash, only to find themselves stranded in an alternate version of Topeka, Kansas, one that has been ravaged by the superflu virus. While following the deserted I-70 toward a distant glass palace, Roland recounts a story about a seaside town called Hambry, where he fell in love with a girl named Susan Delgado, and where he and his old tet-mates Alain and Cuthbert battled the forces of John Farson, the harrier who - with a little help from a seeing sphere called Maerlyn's Grapefruit - ignited Mid-World's final war.

In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most powerful creations: Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake.

Story
Imajica is an epic beyond compare: vast in conception, obsessively detailed in execution, and apocalyptic in its resolution. At its heart lies the sensualist and master art forger Gentle, whose life unravels when he encounters Judith Odell, whose power to influence the destinies of men is vaster than she knows, and Pie "oh" pah, an alien assassin who comes from a hidden dimension.

Story
A master storyteller at his best - the O. Henry Prize winner Stephen King delivers a generous collection of stories, several of them brand-new, featuring revelatory autobiographical comments on when, why, and how he came to write (or rewrite) each story. Magnificent, eerie, utterly compelling, these stories comprise one of King's finest gifts to his constant fan. "I made them especially for you," says King. "Feel free to examine them, but please be careful. The best of them have teeth."

Story
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Although Popular
I believe this is my least favourite DT book. its fascinating to see into The Gunslingers past, but it feels slightly cliche and very teen. its teens in love, which is usually passionate, but it feels somewhat overblown and unrealistic.

Take my imagination away
I read the entire early 2000s and waited for the books I had not read. I did the same for the green mile. SK books always so good. So I took on the dark tower series knowing the length, so glad I did.
Then many years later, I could not remember really any of the detail. This has been awesome for me, sane with the previous ones. So love the narration as well from Frank, he always does such a great job. RIP Frank.

Mayhap one of our generations epic tales, journeying with the ka-tet is an exhilarating experience. My tower quest continues on to Thunderclap and The Wolves.

Best one yet!
I was a little skeptical about deviating away from the when and where of the first three books, but was pleasantly surprised. The story provided a very entertaining insight into Roland’s beginning as a Gunslinger and his quest for the Dark Tower. While providing key information to the greater picture, the story in this book could stand on it’s own. As always Frank Muller performed brilliantly.

Absurd, Tragic, and Beautifully Narrated
If you've made it this far into the series, you won't be disappointed in this installment. King manages to provide a lot of answers about how Roland the Gunslinger became the man we've come to know while simultaneously raising new questions. This book is absurd, tragic, emotional, and a worthy part of this series.
Once again, the story is narrated beautifully. I was disappointed to see that Frank Muller did not continue with this series. Regardless, my journey to the tower continues with Book 5.

A favourite of this series
There’s not enough room for me to list all the things I enjoy about this audiobook.
Frank’s narration is an absolute treat, and brings the characters to vibrating life. Even better upon second listening 🧡
