Publisher's Summary
Best-selling author Harley Humbug needs an escape.
From the current state of her own love life.
From her deadline she blew past weeks ago.
From Christmas, which is just around the corner, and the bad luck it usually brings with it.
When a snowstorm causes a road closure, she chalks it up to one more thing to go wrong.
Little does she know the detour will take her to a town she never knew existed and right into the path - and possible arms - of a man who might just be her real-life muse.

Didn’t feel the insta-love
On the plus side, this is a self contained story instead of a teaser for a full length book. And this takes place at Christmas time between two people with Christmas themed names... and I love holiday romance. But, any holiday themes end there and the novella proceeds in perfunctory fashion as Harley the romance author writes about passion, but passively sits at a barstool, or in her room, or at home, and just waits for him to make all the moves. There’s some odd angst on his part about not being able to get out of town and live the life he wants. And when the nooky happens, it’s over in a not-so-hot minute (and a little crude for this otherwise sweet listen with a cl!t-slit-c@ck description). And why bother with Jason Clarke’s narration for what felt like ten minutes or less of this book? Fine for a free listen, but for nice, naughty, and fun holiday romance, try the trio of novellas in The Reindeer Falls collection.

Entertaining, but ends abruptly
This was a really quick holiday novella. Harley is a romance author, so the story within a story aspect was fun. It’s instalust between her and Saint and the story is essentially the lead up to their one night stand. It’s a novella, so we never get to know either character that well or their motivations, but it was an enjoyable listen. The ending was very abrupt though and there isn’t a HEA or HFN. Things are left hopeful though and I’m not sure if there are plans for more with these characters in the future.
The narration by Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke was great and I always enjoy their performances.

What happened ??
What happened to the rest of the story?
I enjoyed the story overall, but the story is somehow incomplete. Narration was good. Felt that the story was incomplete.

No HEA not sure even HFN
Warning: this isn’t a romance story. It’s two angsty, single people having a one night stand, mixed with a bunch of recycled plot devices related to Christmas.

What happened????
Ugh, the female lead was complainy and bitchy where it definitely wasn’t needed. Saint was so nice and hospitable and why since she was a snot to begin with. You have his need for love and for someone to choice him and in the end she just doesn’t…..sad. Yes he makes the effort a month later but I feel it should’ve been her to make the effort. And it was literally the last 15 seconds of the story. Again Sad. Wanted more for Saint not so much of bitchy.

Saint Nick and Harley Humbug
*****SPOILER ALERT*****
FREE Audible Premium Plus and KU borrow. Dual POV. 1 hour 28 minute audiobook; 68 page ebook. Both narrators did a great job (4 stars). Christmas themed novella (2 stars).
Harley Humbug gets stuck in a small Christmas themed town during a snowstorm. She's ready to move on after catching her boyfriend with a man and ending their relationship even though they've stayed friends. Harley meets Saint Nick while looking for a place to stay overnight. Saint inspires her to write the next portion of her book. Even though there didn't seem to be any chemistry between Saint and Harley they hooked up, it was just too rushed. The next morning she leaves and the epilogue has Saint visiting Harley one month later. JP

The Detour is a cute novella. It is a fast read/listen at only 1 hour and 28 minutes long. The book is told in dual POV and is narrated by both a a male and a female narrator. They did a good job. This book was included free in the audible plus catalog.
