About this listen

“Before I can begin my tale, you need to know about the king's panties.”

So begins the epic adventure of 14-year-old Nigel, digger of latrines, shoveler of poop, and the single greatest threat to all the humans, elves, and halflings of Esteria.

Nigel needs to escape from military school. Who can blame him? After all, the king just declared war on the gorks, and he's pretty sure his latrine-digging skills aren't going to be much good on the front lines.

Problem is, Nigel's escape efforts have a way of backfiring, taking him further from home, and destroying, well, pretty much everything that gets in his way. By the time he and his arch-frenemy are banished from the kingdom and sent on an impossible quest for a (probably bogus) magical artifact, the humans of Esteria find themselves longing for the good old days when they were merely being annihilated by Lord Smoron.

Book one of the Nigel Chronicles, The Dragon Squisher tell the story of how Nigel, his too-perfect comrade Lance Hightower, and Eldrack, a female gork prisoner with a well-earned grudge against humans, usher in a new era of chaos and magic.

About the Creator

Scott McCormick: When he’s not flustering emus or stymying mambas, Scott McCormick enjoys annoying his children until they tell their mother. He also writes. He writes all kinds of stuff. Some of it is good. He wrote the Mr. Pants series of graphic novels. Those were good. You should totally check them out. So are the books he writes for Audible, including Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World, and its sequel, Rivals 2. He’s also excited about his first novel, The Dragon Squisher, which is just as funny and squishy as it sounds. Scott lives on the western edge of the easternmost part of southern North Carolina, right smack in the middle of it all.

A fun fantasy romp in a tongue-and-cheek genre savvy adventure. Enjoyable by children and adults alike, join Nigel as he pranks his way into desperate situations, makes unlikely allies, and faces a possible world-ending challenge.

Excellent narrator for a fun story

My 7 and 9 year old daughters loved this book they thought it had a amazing plot and a even better character development. I would like to point out that some moments were a bit concerning and a little inappropriate but other then that I would highly recommend this book.

This Book was a Delightful Read

The Dragon Squisher got me through Covid. In Covid 19 I used the online audible a lot, Scott McCormick has such a unique and funny way of writing that always makes me laugh. I kept coming back to this book (as well as bugging other family members to listen to it) because of how playful and entertaining the characters and story were.

Enjoyable throughout

Loved this book, a lot more than I thought I would based on the cover and description. It is almost a parody of the lord of the rings, but has too much other originality to qualify as just a parody. This was the best audiobook performance I’ve heard outside of having a full cast. I’d recommend this to anyone who enjoys young adult fantasy and LOTR fans. It has silliness that would appeal to younger children, but there’s a bit too much darkness and complexity to the plot to really be a children’s book. I’d recommend it for probably 9+ depending on the maturity of the child. I hope the author continues the series because I enjoyed it so much but it is a complete story on its own.

Excellent

Adam Fuller does a great job narrating this spoof of LOTR from a tween perspective, with a little adult humour thrown in for good measure. The story gets lost in the middle and the ending gets rushed, but the climax and denouement are solid. Fun stuff.

Amazing narration

Not sure how this passed as child friendly but I feel it's inappropriate and not suited for a child who is socially developing. teenagers might enjoy, and be able to rationalize the content, but kids don't need this type of content in their lives

not child friendly
