Publisher's Summary
Seventeen years of buried secrets and a divorce stood between them.
It started with her estranged father's murder. The last thing LA detective Gabby Woodward needed was the custody of her entitled half-brother. She was jaded and overworked. A nurturing soul she was not. And he was a reminder of him. Her ex-husband. The man who crushed her heart and trampled on her love.
Ex-mercenary Declan Roarke had hit rock bottom. His new assignment mentoring teen actors was the gateway to hell. And the last thing he needed was to be near his ex-wife. The woman who trampled on their vows and ruined his ability to trust.
Working together exposes feelings for each other that never died. It also uncovers the conspiracy that tore them apart. Lies. Murder. Plot twist. Welcome to Hollywood.
The Ex Assignment is book one of the Rogue Protectors series, but it can be heard as a stand-alone.

sappy
Story line was ok but it was pretty sappy. I'm ok with romances but could've done without the very detailed sex scenes and the much overused F word.

Need a better narrator
I really like the story but the male narrator was terrible. He can’t do different characters. It made it hard to finish the story.

A little bit of everything
This book really does have a lil of everything. And it definitely keeps you wanting more. The only problem is the female narration. She was too breathy and desperate sounding.

DNF
Too many twists and turns immediately with too many characters whose s voices all sound the same. I couldn’t keep track of who was doing what and who was saying what.

CANNOT STAND Emma Wilder Reading it
Couldn't finish it. Gave it 2 tries and never made it through the first chapter. Emma Wilder rewards it like she's a newscaster telling headlines. She has a nasal, pretentious voice through most of it. When you hear the tiny bits with her real voice, it makes you wish she'd read the whole thing that way instead. Ruined the story for me, so I have no idea if the author is good or not.

Fairly good storylines for a romance novel
The story has a few good storylines for a romantic crime novel. The voice of the female performer was a distraction for me; her reading is fine but I found her breathy timbre at odds with the character. That said, this is the first romance novel I've read/listened to for several decades so maybe they are all like this. If you like romance novels, you'll probably like this one. If you are looking for a pure crime story... you might want to look elsewhere.

Could not even listen to this.
It’s a narration not a news cast. Her voice is nice to her reading is so fake and doesn’t go with the story. I apologize for an ugly review and I listen to many books. But It’s not often when I can’t listen because the narrator sounds like nails on a chalkboard. The male narrator was better but not a Teddy Hamilton.I can’t rate the story because I can’t listen to it. Ugh.

Couldn’t get through with male narrator.
I really enjoy Emma and her narrating voices, she is convincing and can narrator a male voice brilliantly. But the male narrator was horrible. Absolutely horrible and couldn’t get past 2 hour of book.
