Hot-shot lawyer McKenna Keaton finds herself in hot water with her own law firm when she’s (falsely!) accused of embezzlement. Placed on unpaid leave, she suddenly finds herself with the free time to return home and attend her youngest sister’s wedding activities. But it’s not all fun and games. Waiting back home is shy, nerdy Henry Blumenthal—McKenna’s high school rival for valedictorian who once took three hours to beat her at chess. Scratch that. Exquisitely imagined and hypnotically told, The Lonely Hearts Hotel is a love story with the power of legend. Set in the early part of the 20th century, it is an unparalleled tale of abandoned children, radicalized chorus girls, drug-addicted musicians, brooding clowns, and an underworld whose fortune hinges on the price of a kiss. In a landscape like this, it takes great creative gifts to escape one's origins. It might also take true love.

Publisher's Summary
New York Times best seller
Erin Sterling casts a delightful spell with a spine-tingling romance full of wishes, witches, and hexes gone wrong.
“A delightful and witty take on witchy mayhem.” (Popsugar)
Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two.
That is until Rhys Penhallow, descendent of the town’s ancestors, breaker of hearts, and annoyingly just as gorgeous as he always was, returns to Graves Glen, Georgia. What should be a quick trip to recharge the town’s ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival turns disastrously wrong. With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all.
Suddenly, Graves Glen is under attack from murderous wind-up toys, a pissed off ghost, and a talking cat with some interesting things to say. Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late.

Cute story. I didn’t mind it for some light listening though I was surprised by the graphic sex scenes. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t really mind that. I just wasn’t expecting it so be aware if that’s not your thing.

A Delightful Romcom
A little spicier than I usually enjoy, but overall a very delightful romantic fluff to make you feel the warm and cozies.
The only thing that threw me was how much like Jennifer Coolidge the narrator sounds at times. Not a complaint, though! It was a fun aspect IMO.

Disappointing Narration
The story itself was okay but when you write a novel describing the male lead has having a super hot Welsh accent you should have a narrator that can do one! Some novels I brought up by fantastic narration … sadly this one was brought down.

Not for me
The narrator had such a breathy voice that the sex scenes sounded like a 1-900 # and any of the drama was at an 11/10. She didn’t really ever attempt another voice for the various characters.
The witchcraft stuff was consistent throughout the book and I enjoyed the whole candle idea.
There were also too many sex scenes for my liking, but I will give it to the author that the terminology was varied but not exactly original.

Content Warning: Alcohol use, Child neglect, Profanity, Sexually explicit scenes
I really liked this one! I thought the second chance romance was well done with the "why" that they came back together. The mixture of romance and fantasy was really well done here to make it into a cozy romance novel rather than something full of high fantasy.
It was a really quick read and I definitely recommend it!

fun halloween reads!
I love me some badass witches and had so much fun reading about a small Halloween town and the witches in it in these two Halloween themed witchy books: The Ex Hex and The Kiss Curse by @erinsterlingbooks! I can't wait for book three, and the third Penhallow brother's story.
The Ex Hex is a second chance romance where two witchy bffs/cousins make the mistake of mixing vodka and spell work and hex the boy who broke Vivi's heart. Rhys is forced to come back to the town where he knows the girl who got away still lives, but nothing is going right and this little hex just keeps knocking him down.
The Kiss Curse is all about the competition! Gwyn (Vivi's cousin) and Wells (Rhys' brother), are head to head in the battle of witchy shops! But what Wells doesn't know, is why he is actually in town and what his has been doing to those around him.
Such fun, cute, spooky season quick reads! Definitely recommend if you're feeling witchy!

This was a good listen
This is definitely a good fall read, puts your in the fall/Halloween mood as it’s set around Halloween and references a lot of magic. The story I felt was fast, predictable but entertaining. The characters were likeable, however as an audiobook, I found myself drifting off from time to time and had to concentrate to focus back on the story. I think as a paper copy it may have held me more. This book was highly recommended on a lot of booktok’s as a top fall read.
Is a good quick one!

Good but the narrator wasn’t great
Loved the story but the narrator gave Vivian the most annoying lilt to her voice that made it really difficult to listen to the book, I would have given up if the story line weren’t so good. I find it very odd that Vivi’s voice had an almost Irish lift to the ends of sentences (I imagine this is to give her a bookish and naive sort of character) but Rhys, the Welshman who is literally described as having an accent, had no accent at all. Super weird and annoying. Other characters voices were good, not sure what happened with the leads.
As I said, the story was fantastic, loved everything about it and I’d still say it’s worth a listen despite the offensive narration.

Maybe the worst narrator I’ve ever heard
The story is fun. But, I have to say, it is really really hard to listen to. It’s like the narrator has absolutely no idea what words she’s reading. Her intonation is completely incongruous with the words she’s saying. It’s like every sentence is somehow a question….. I’d avoid the audiobook at all costs and get this one as a physical book to read. Spare yourself…. Its so bad.

Cute Halloween Read, Terrible Narration
This was a great read to put me in a Halloween mood! It was just spooky enough, although a bit predictable, but who doesn't appreciate a happy ending? The narration, however, ruined the experience. First, the leading man is from Wales (a big part of his character) and the narrator didn't do an accent. Huge mistake! Then, she sounded as if she were speaking through gritted teeth and every word was a question. Every sentence ended in an upward inflection, it was the strangest reading I've ever heard. Cute story, but do yourself a favor and skip the audio! Opt for reading it yourself instead.

Fun story but...
The narration is like nails on a chalkboard. I really wanted to love this book but I won't be able to listen to it again. It's not the narrator's voice, it's the direction she was given or the style or tone that was chosen.

Intolerable narration performance
So I only listened to the fist 6 or so chapters because the narrator was driving me insane! The intonation is so very very wrong. She reads like that auto voice on tiktok where the emphasis is off. It’s like she’s not even considering the words she’s reading, which makes the story so hard to follow. Also, it’s a bummer that the Welsh characters don’t have a Welsh accent. Aaaanyway, I switched to hardcooy and enjoyed the book/story itself.

A cute story but lackluster narration
The story was fun and cute. But what kept taking me out of the story was the narration. One of the main characters is Welsh and the narrator only occasionally did the accent. Most of his dialogue was done in an American accent which made all the British-isms very strange to hear.

Distracting Narrator
This book was perfectly short and sweet for a quick spooky read during October but the narration was so distracting I almost gave up. Weird intonation, lack of a Welsh accent, and then weird additions OF the Welsh accent randomly… it just didn’t flow. Unfortunate as the story was cute enough.

great easy going story
story is pretty entertaining. typical boy loves girl, girl loves boy and don't want to admit it. but it was very descriptive and detailed and definitely got me in the Halloween mood. overall I enjoyed it and finished it in one day!

Charming and so enjoyable!
What a magical (pun intended) blend of humor, wit, mystery, and a little lightly steamy romance/sex! Just what I needed, and a perfect way to start October. I enjoyed the narrator, though I wish she had done a little more with the accents. Overall, a very fun, light listen on a rainy day. Looking forward to the continuation of this one...

I actually loved the narrator
I loved the story and to be honest the narrator's tone was a part of why. I don't understand the other opinions because I just loved the narrator. I'm gonna listen to some more of the audiobook she performed.
