Brain Wash builds from a simple premise: Our brains are being gravely manipulated, resulting in behaviors that leave us more lonely, anxious, depressed, distrustful, illness-prone, and overweight than ever before.

Dish up the red meat, eggs, and whole milk! In this well-researched and captivating narrative, veteran food writer Nina Teicholz proves how everything we've been told about fat is wrong. For decades, Americans have cut back on red meat and dairy products full of "bad" saturated fats. We obediently complied with nutritional guidelines to eat "heart healthy" fats found in olive oil, fish, and nuts, and followed a Mediterranean diet heavy on fruits, vegetables, and grains. Yet the nation's health has declined. What is going on?

Thrive or die: That's the rule of evolution. Despite this brutal logic, some species have learned to survive in even the most hostile conditions. Others couldn't - and perished. While incremental genetic adaptations hone the physiology of nearly every creature on this planet, there's another evolutionary force that is just as important: the power of choice. In this explosive investigation into the limits of endurance, journalist Scott Carney discovers how humans can wedge control over automatic physiological responses into the breaking point between stress and biology.

Story
We all know the dangers of sugar and salt: but the danger attributed to the second white crystal has more to do with getting too little of it, not too much. Too little salt can shift the body into semi-starvation mode, causing insulin resistance, and may even cause twice as much fat to be absorbed for every gram that's consumed. Too little salt in certain populations can also actually increase blood pressure as well as resting heart rate.

Publisher's Summary
A proven plan to optimize your health by reclaiming your natural ability to burn body fat for fuel
The ability to use body fat for energy is essential to health - but over decades of practice, renowned family physician Catherine Shanahan, MD, observed that many of her patients could not burn their body fat between meals, trapping them in a downward spiral of hunger, fatigue, and weight gain.
In The Fatburn Fix, Dr. Shanahan shows us how industrially produced vegetable oils accumulate in our body fat and disrupt our body’s energy-producing systems, driving food addictions that hijack our moods and habits while making it nearly impossible to control our weight. To reclaim our health, we need to detoxify our body fat and help repair our "fatburn" capabilities.
Dr. Shanahan shares five important rules to fix your fatburn:
- Eat natural fats, not vegetable oils.
- Eat slow-digesting carbs, not starchy carbs or sweets.
- Seek salt.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Supplement with vitamins and minerals.
She then provides a revolutionary, step-by-step plan to help reboot your fatburn potential in as little as two weeks. This customizable two-phase plan is widely accessible, easy to follow, and will appeal to the full spectrum of diet ideologies, from plant-based to carnivore to keto and beyond. By making a few changes to what you eat and when, you will lose unwanted weight and restore your body’s ability to store and release energy.
With The Fatburn Fix, Dr. Shanahan shows how regaining your fatburn is the key to effortless weight loss and a new, elevated life, paving the way to abundant energy and long-term health and happiness.

Great Book
I understand the biochemistry behind the Fatburn Fix because I am a physician, who is very interested in changing the direction of the epidemic of obesity. There is always room for improvement and the rationale behind the diet change. The recommendations makes sense to me. The first few chapters maybe over the head of general public but the changes are doable. I admit I will not be able to 100% change the type of carbs I consume myself but I can certainly reduce the amount. I would like to use the 5 rules for my patients but changing their perception of salt and animal fat is going to be challenging. The society have brainwashed the public about dangers of salt & animal fat. I listened to it on Audible and I then bought the hard cover and also converted the PDFs for a file on my desk for quick reference.

Wronnnnnng Narrator
I buy so many of these books and the majority of them are read by the actual author. I think it’s so much more important for the actual doctor to be reading their own material as there is something so lost when the voice is completely wrong. This woman sounds like she should be reading fairytales not important information like this. It was extremely irritating and I typically am able to listen to one of these books very very easily. Would not recommend this book on audible but would recommend it on Kindle or as an actual book.

Hateful 8
I started reading this and took the first step, remove the 8 seed oils from my diet, seriously. And, just from that I have lost 5 inches off my stomach. I am still eating whatever I want as long as it's free of the 8 and my body is slowly starting to burn fat. I do recommend two things. Walking 10 minutes 3x a day and tracking your food (anything you eat or put into your mouth). The first one helps your heart and helps burn fat when your body tries to reserve energy. And the second one will make it evident what you are putting in to your mouth.

Great Info!
(Written by Barbara) Loved the chemical explanation about how saturated fats are so much better for you than monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats. My husband, the chemical engineer, likes talking about chemistry. So it gave it a good conversation to have. I have been trying to do the elimination of bad oils, and a low carb, low sugar diet since I read the book. And I'm having some success at losing some weight, when it has been difficult for a while. So I appreciate the help.
