Publisher's Summary

In James Patterson's new stand-alone thriller, one secret can bring down a government when the president's affair to remember becomes a nightmare he wishes he could forget.

Sally Grissom is a top secret service agent in charge of the Presidential Protection team. She knows that something is amiss when she is summoned to a private meeting with the president and his chief of staff without any witnesses. But she couldn't have predicted that she'd be forced to take on an investigation surrounding the mysterious disappearance of the first lady - with strict orders to keep it a secret.

The first lady's absence comes in the wake of the scandalous, public revelation of the president's affair, so at first, it seems as though she is simply cutting off all contact as she recuperates at a horse farm in Virginia. What begins as an innocent respite quickly reveals itself as a twisted case when the White House receives a ransom note along with the first lady's finger.

Predictable

I usually love James Petterson, however this story was disappointing. There was never any highs. No climax, just a long story. I wouldnt recommend this one to my friends.

implausible but entertaining

A woman's point if view on many levels, a nice change from a male macho view. the story is hugely improbable as the President's lead Secret Service agent spends the whole story without him.

Cynical and lacking substance

Cynical and lacking substance sums up the story being told in this book. Narration is good especially given the material they had to work with.

Fascinating!

This is a fascinating book about how the Obama's, Michelle in particular, "became" the woman she is today.

Great Story with horrible narration

The story is really great, with plot twists and unexpected turns.. Like a lot of fiction, there are some things that require a stretch of imagination, but not so much that it is unbelievable. But the narrator was extremely distracting with mispronunciations of very common words. Two words drove me crazy, as they were repeated many times throughout the book: Potomac and Maryland. But who doesn't know how to pronounce pasta? cordial? drama? missile? Gitmo? brusque? I can forgive her for Arapacho, but you'd think she could look up the correct pronunciation. Fire the narrator (Deborah McBride), record again with someone who can pronounce common american words properly, and make it available for download to those of us who enjoyed the story but hated the narration.

Spoilers below...

The women are smart, tough, resilient, determined, cunning and brave. The men are stupid, selfish, duplicitous, moronic, conniving, petty, mean, self-centered bastards. The end.

Really liked it

I had stopped reading James Patterson because his books started to feel like he was not even trying to write a good book. They all started to sound the same. I bought The First Lady because of the reviews and they were correct, the book did not disappoint, I loved it. this book felt like the old James Patterson. I highly recommend that you read it.

Another Patterson book that’s pretty darn good

Nother Patterson books it’s really good. I enjoyed the twists and turns and I didn’t see what was is coming at the end it was a good finish. If you’re fan of James Patterson I think you’ll enjoy it.

Very good, but left me wanting to know more

Enjoyed it, there were a few storylines that could have played out a bit longer, like what happened to the phone with the recordings, what became of Scotty, how could they not have an investigation and no one charged with the murder of the husband. I really liked this book as much as the one about the President. Left me wanting more.
