Publisher's Summary
The internationally best-selling fantasy sensation is back with brand-new stories set in the world of Eragon and the Inheritance Cycle!
A wanderer and a cursed child. Spells and magic. And dragons, of course. Welcome back to the world of Alagaësia.
It's been a year since Eragon departed Alagaësia in search of the perfect home to train a new generation of Dragon Riders. Now, he is struggling with an endless sea of tasks: constructing a vast dragonhold, wrangling with suppliers, guarding dragon eggs, and dealing with belligerent Urgals and haughty elves. Then a vision from the Eldunarí, unexpected visitors, and an exciting Urgal legend offer a much-needed distraction and a new perspective.
This volume features three original stories set in Alagaësia, interspersed with scenes from Eragon's own unfolding adventure. Included is an excerpt from the memoir of the unforgettable witch and fortune-teller Angela the herbalist...penned by Angela Paolini, the inspiration for the character herself!
Relish the incomparable imagination of Christopher Paolini in this thrilling new collection of stories based in the world of the Inheritance Cycle.

Christopher Paolini does it again
Another amazing Paolini work. It leaves you still wanting more from his world. He has mastered the dragon rider epic and now going on to a new part of the story I cant wait to see what comes. The narrator Gerard Doyle is truly the best voice and gives life to the characters in a way nobody else could. Highly recommend.

Okay?
I really really looked forward to seeing more of Murtagh and Angela the herbalist. My heart was sooo happy in the forks section, and since I first heard it I was expecting more of him. Especially since he seemed to be on his own journey, I would specifically like to see a book where it’s just Murtagh, especially since both romances in the previous books were tossed away like no big deal. :’) His character leaves me wanted to learn more about him, and more about thorn. I also expected to learn more about who Angela is, who is she really? Instead it was just a cruel taste of the very top of her life. The last section of the book I didn’t find interesting at all, due to the fact that the story that was being told was like an hour or so long and since it was a story, nothing was actually being accomplished. I skipped most of it, it just felt counter productive to listen to. However if you like the Urgals, then perhaps you’d enjoy the long story they told more then I did.
Did I forget to mention? We need more Murtagh!!
Also the voice actor changed the voices of the dragons a bit, and because I was use to it, it kind of threw me off, but it wasn’t as harsh as the last 5 books so it was nice.

Not what I was hoping for
This as a good story. However, it's nothing close to what I was expecting.
Gerard Doyle was great as always.
The story itself started great. I enjoyed the "Fork" story, although it was very short. It just wasn't the follow up I had been waiting quite some time for.

Great quick read!
The only negative feedback I have is that I wish there were more of it. Christopher has grown and his writing has matured with him.
Fantastic read and even more so that it immediately took me back to the world of Alagaesia.
I hope that this brings a demand to write more books and stories.
Thanks Christopher, your writing inspires and entertains, which are a rare combination.

Too many loose ends.
The beginnings of extremely exciting stories that left an extreme amount untold and too many questions unanswered. I would have liked to see it much longer and see how the stories play out rather than have all these new events rattling around my brain. I have so many questions and who knows if and when they will be answered.

Some good, most bad
I was excited to see what has happened in the interval between the last book of the Inheritance Cycle and the setting of this story. Unfortunately this was not where the majority of the story takes place. This made the book disjointed and uninteresting. A post on the status of the characters post Inheritance Cycle in web format and a release of a book of lore would have been more effective. It felt like Chris had some concept work sitting on a hard drive and the editor pushed for a cash grab resulting in this gumbled concoction. Additionally, the change in narration for old characters and the overall length if the story where disappointing. I loved the original Eragon stories and this didn't feel like it belongs to be counted among them.

Short. Disjointed. A bit confusing.
Per usual, narrator first.
He's good. Not Michael Kramer good, but still good. A nice range of voices and good pacing.
Now, the stories.
Well, first you need to understand that this is a frame story. We're basically seeing a day in Eragon's life in which three different people are relating stories to him.
Hence, we end up hearing about a magical fork (my favorite story by far, even though it is the shortest of the bunch), a witch (term used very loosely, as it's pertaining to Angela and "special" girl Eragon basically created), and a wyrm.
The writing itself is along the same lines as we've come to expect from Paolini (so, not amazing, but nothing to complain about without getting nitpicky). Independent of the others, each story is cohesive and well constructed, if lacking in emotional power.
But for me, the point where the book falls down is the links between the stories.
I think if it had been a true anthology, with firm breaks between stories, it would have gone a long way toward solving the problem.
As it is, however, it reads like it's going somewhere and things are going to tie together, which is misleading because they don't. The only commonalities are the coming back to Eragon between the stories.
And it's confusing because the breaks between the stories are not solid. When chapter two started, I was under the impression it was just a POV switch within a single story, which it isn't. And in the second story (which starts, I believe, in chapter 4), the chapter headings are crazy (it is explained in the frame part of the story, but that doesn't really help it make sense) and it's easy to lose track of where you are and what's going on.
All in all, I think this was a great idea, but should have been done without the frame and preferably with two to three times the number of stories. A three story anthology is a bit of a joke, in my opinion.
In closing, if you're an Eragon enthusiast then you're going to want to read this. But if not then you may as well skip it.

Three Short stories
Each of the three short stories featured in this book show a glimpse into Eragon’s life at his new dragon stronghold plus a story told to him to help alleviate current stresses.
Short stories...
The Fork: A quick glimpse of Murtagh’s life.
The Witch: gives a brief catch up with Angela and Elva, plus Angela’s story.
The Worm: a wonderful dragon story told by Urgals.

TOO short
pretty much no qualms of the story itself I just thought it was weird that it ended too fast.
I don't like how everything nowdays has to be a reference 2 something previous or an obvious Easter egg to the Future. It felt more like a catch-up letter from an old friend rather than its own thing.
