Publisher's Summary

In January 2022, a small group of Canadian truckers fed up with nearly two years of COVID restrictions and a new vaccine mandate for cross-border essential workers decided to take their frustrations directly to the nation's capital. The Freedom Convoy quickly took on a life of its own as hundreds of trucks and thousands of protesters made the journey to Parliament Hill. For the next three weeks, the trucker convoy led a protest unlike any other, complete with bouncy castles, pig roasts, and late-night dance parties. But to the media and government, it was a hate-filled insurrection requiring the unprecedented invocation of the federal Emergencies Act.

In this timely and provocative book, author Andrew Lawton combines his own on-the-ground reporting and countless hours of interviews with the Freedom Convoy's organizers and volunteers to tell, for the first time, the whole story of the convoy.

absolutely wonderful

I loved every minute of this book. It brought me back to 2022 when my world changed forever. The day the day the convoy rolled through my town was the best day of my life. to see thousands of people... All kinds of people who had previously been hiding behind their masks and whom I assumed didn't care about what was happening to me and my family... They were all out. lining the highways gathered every major intersection and in mass at a few key locations in the city... I don't even know how to describe the feelings. I cannot say enough how thankful I am for this movement and I really appreciate the author for carefully telling the story.

the other side of the story

We have all heard the way that the protest was framed by politicians and the media. there is certainly a bias here, but nothing written is false or dishonest. if you are politically opposed to the convoy, consider this the other side of the story, quite different from what you had perhaps heard before, and form your own opinions with the full picture. if you are politically aligned with the convoy, this book enriches your understanding of what you may have watched on live streams or even attended.

Andrew Lawton brings us a behind the scenes look at the people and events behind the movement. though he could be criticized for not going into the more storybook details of the atmosphere, anecdotal subplots, international copycat protests, he delves deep into the logistics and politics behind how the convoy actually came together. So as inspiring as this was as a read, it is not strictly a cheerleading piece for the protest, it has a fascinating and complex substance to it.

What should have been celebrated as a uniquely Canadian protest, conducted by diverse and peaceful strangers turned community, was demonized. But history will show the freedom convoy as one of the most significant civil rights movements of the 21st century. this book tells that story.

agree or disagree, great piece of history

A piece of history that must be kept, taught, and remembered. Agree or disagree with what happened and why is mute, this is history of people protesting for what they believed in and how it was dealt with.

Excellent factual description of what happened

Well written and highly detailed, this book allows readers to follow in what happened with the Concoy step by step. This allows the reader to understand what this movement was about and why the PM's invocation of the Emergencies Act was -- as a federal court judge recently ruled -- illegal and unreasonable. It was good to read such great depiction of what actually happened on the ground two years afterwards. With all the government disinformation against points of view it doesn't approve of, I'm glad Mr Lawton wrote this book, for posterity and for people who might be more open to hearing "the other side of the story" now that new light is being shed on this memorable event of canadian history.

A fair chronicle of the convoy the good the bad and the ugly.

Andrew does a great job of chronicling the convoy in fair way. You know he is just telling it as it was warts and all.

concise and informative

Good accounting of the events. If you liked this you could check out the livestream footage of the event. Viva Frei interviewed hundreds if not thousands of protestors... from all walks of life.
