Publisher's Summary
The story of one woman who believed in scientific medicine before the world believed in her
Rescued from a pandemic’s wreckage and raised by the eccentric surgeon Dr. Horace Croft, orphan Nora Beady cares little for Victorian conventions. While other young ladies busy themselves with needlework and watercolors, Nora perfects her sutures and anatomical illustrations.
Women face dire consequences if caught practicing medicine, but in Croft’s private clinic, Nora is his most trusted - and secret - assistant. That is, until the new surgical resident, Dr. Daniel Gibson, arrives. He never suspects Nora is more qualified than he is, and to protect herself she’ll have to play a new and uncomfortable role - a proper young lady.
But pretense has limits. Confronted by suffering patients, Nora cannot hide her skill, even if it means giving Gibson the power to ruin everything she’s worked for. And when she makes a discovery that could change the medical field forever, Nora faces an impossible choice: remain invisible and let the men around her take credit for her work, or let the world see her for what she is - even if it means being destroyed by her own legacy.

Insightful and Enjoyable
A nice story. An easy listen with insight to the struggles and triumphs of women (in medicine) two centuries ago.

fantastic read!
lighthearted, maybe somewhat macabre romance. It was a quick read with early dives into medicine for women.

Surprisingly Wonderful!
It had me spell-bound! Whether you love a good novel that you can't put down or are intrigued by historical fiction, this book has it all! I realize that this is a budding author duo, but it has the character development and vocabulary of a Dickens, the captivating storytelling and well researched history of a Brown, and the emotional relatability of a Bronte. I hope to see more from these two gifted writers.

Wonderful Book!!
I’m normally a romance/Sci Fi/ Fantasy reader but this book called out to my Degree in biology side. It was wonderful and I couldn’t put it down. Please be aware that there is a sequel that was as great as this book was.

An easy read
A well written book that is alternately infuriating and gratifying. The HERoe of the story is wonderfully strong and determined and should be an inspiration to women and girls! of course, the outrageous misogyny is very hard to read, but Nora is strong and makes her own decisions and is able to do pretty much what she wants to do in the end. There is a sequel to this book and I intend to read it!

DNF because of Animal cruelty
I know during this time they experiment on animals and we owe it all to them for discovering illnesses and cures. But Im really not someone who can stomach reading/listening about it.
SPOILER: It was around Chapter 14 onwards, Nora wanted to find an ugly stray dog that she can "injure" and experiment on. But Harry brought her puppies instead. And well, I really dont want to know how they really died. The next scene which was the last straw for me was awful.

Excellent story. Overly emphatic reading
The story of a brilliant young women fighting the male dominated medical field in a time where women were supposed to be demure was riveting. I truly struggled with the reading as it seemed far to over emphatic and felt like I was being grilled by a elderly school teacher from the 1700’s. I wished repeatedly to be done with the book because of the driving nature of the narration. It could prevent me from listening to the sequel.

I want more
Great story, not full of sex scenes, but emotional in so many ways. A brave, interesting, intelligent woman who cares not for the silly pursuits of women of her time, but for personal growth AND love. I would love to read more of this author(s)!
