Publisher's Summary

"Amy's got your back. She's in your corner. She's an honesty bomb. And she's coming for you." (Actress Tilda Swinton, Trainwreck costar)

The Emmy Award-winning comedian, actress, writer, and star of Inside Amy Schumer and the acclaimed film Trainwreck has taken the entertainment world by storm with her winning blend of smart, satirical humor. Now Amy Schumer has written a refreshingly candid and uproariously funny collection of (extremely) personal and observational essays.

In The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo, Amy mines her past for stories about her teenage years, her family, relationships, and sex and shares the experiences that have shaped who she is - a woman with the courage to bare her soul to stand up for what she believes in, all while making us laugh. Down to earth and relatable, frank and unapologetic, Amy Schumer is one of us: She relies on her sister for advice, still hangs out with her high school pals, and continues to navigate the ever-changing boundaries in love, work, and life.

Ranging from the raucous to the romantic, the heartfelt to the harrowing, this highly entertaining and universally appealing collection is the literary equivalent of a night out with your best friend - an unforgettable and fun adventure that you wish could last forever. Whether she's experiencing lust at first sight while in the airport security line, sharing her own views on love and marriage, admitting to being an introvert, or discovering her cross-fit instructor's secret bad habit, Amy Schumer proves to be a bighearted, brave, and thoughtful storyteller that will leave you nodding your head in recognition, laughing out loud, and sobbing uncontrollably - but only because it's over.

An enjoyable listen, thanks Amy!

I really enjoyed her clever take on life. She shares her struggles, fears and silly moments. I felt like my good friend was telling me some of her darkness secrets. I'm a bigger fan now that I've listen to this book. #Audible1

New love found for Amy Schumer

I really enjoyed this book and loved hearing it in Amy's voice. l think if we ever met we would be great friends. Amy made me laugh out loud (obviously), share a few tears and really made me think on a few things. Total respect for Amy and this amazing human she is.

There wasn't too too many climax's in her book

I expected a bit more grit. a bit more heart. There definitely was heart don't get me wrong. just expected a bit more. also she thanked God at the end then said "JK". .....who do u think u are? that right there got her docked a star in my opinion.

Good

This listen was not what I expected. I enjoyed it, don’t get me wrong, but there was some pretty dark experiences from Amy Schumer’s life that I did not expect to hear. Though she raised important issues in today’s society by sharing those experiences, I thought there might be more light hearted humour. There was that too, so I guess it’s more of a mixed bag of personal experiences than I anticipated. #Audible1

It Should Never be Read Aloud by Anyone Else

Amy Schumer shares the foundational moments of her life in The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo, and how they have grown her into the kickass woman she is today. As you listen to Amy, be prepared to experience all ranges of emotional reaction, mostly laughter, but often shock, and empathy. I absolutely loved how the truth shot out of her mouth without any apology whatsoever. She is certainly a powerhouse of a comedian, but this book, read in her own voice, reveals how she is a human just like the rest of us, trying to make it through one day at a time by laughing at our own silly lives.

Having Amy narrate really made this book special

I wholeheartedly recommend this book. Being a huge Amy Shumer fan I did not just want to read her book I wanted to hear her read it. I laughed so much and cried as well and got a sense of who Amy is and why I love her so much. It would not have been the same if someone else had narrated it. Only Amy can tell her story.

mind numbing

I love Amy Schumers comedy, however I feel like someone said to her she needed a book, and threw in a poorly planned semi biography. the entire book could be summarized as "people think I'm like __,but I'm really like__."

honestly it came off as tone deaf between bragging about being "new money" or how good she was at stealing. It had the potential to be a lot better. oh well.

So very relatable

The only thing she could have to make this better, was to make it longer!
I can't for the next book... no matter what the title hahaha! inside book joke.

Looking for humor? Look elsewhere.

I had this book in my wish list for awhile, I was really excited when it was finally released. I like Amy Schumer and expected to laugh throughout this book. Unfortunately each chapter was a total bummer.
From her dad's battle with MS to sexual assault with one guy to being physically abused by a different guy and a theater shooting. None of these serious subjects offered a laugh (and rightfully so.) It's interesting but if you are looking for a laugh, look elsewhere, there's no humor here.

Don't bother.

I could not enjoy this book. I really tried but she said "footnote," like 50 times in a row and talked about naming her stuff animal and gossiping about her friends at age 9. Really not interested sorry!

moments were funny, but mostly poor, amateur writing

I like her comedy but I was very disappointed by this book. There were very funny moments but for the most part it was cringeworthy. It was like she filled out a bunch of those facebook surveys "30 things you don't know about me " and turned it into a memoir. I still like her and her work, but she's not a writer and I would recommend skipping this book if you want to preserve your good image of her .

Over rated

Any additional comments?

I was expecting more of a Chelsea Handler type memoir. Real life laced with hilariousness. I still love Amy and her comedy, but she takes herself entirely too seriously. Maybe it's her young age, but Amy my dear, you don't quite have it all figured out yet as you would like us to believe. I had to sort of roll my eyes at some points, and the evaluation of her mom is brutal. I truly hope age, maturity, and possibly becoming a mother herself will soften that judgmental coldness. All in all a pretty good read though, and when she hits about 55, I'd be very interested to hear how at this age she realizes she did not have all the answers.

Disappointing and depressing

This isn't a bad book per se, but I think I would have appreciated it a lot more if it balanced the hard stories with some lightness. I understand Schumer wants to express her life experiences, but I laughed (for a split second) once in the span of an 8+ hour book. She has to realize that people are buying it because she's a known comedian. The delivery was very subdued and the non-stop sad stories left me thinking this should have been her second book, not her first. If you buy this, know going in that it's anything but a funny book. Even if her stories had made me think, I would have taken away more. I just felt like I was locked in a room with a very depressed person.

A lot of human feces stories.

I like Amy but returned the book. Was not for me. Many sad stories. I'm sure it was cathartic for her.

depressing and sad.

I bought this book hoping to laugh however Amy tells very heavy stories about her childhood that are both depressing and awkward.

Better at stand up than reading. Returned.

What disappointed you about The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo?

The narration. I could only hear reading-I lost the point over and over. She's a lot more expressive on stage.

it's not that this is really that boring, but it is unoriginal and inconsistent. I'd say, unless you're a real Amy Schumer fan, you can avoid this.

A funny and powerful autobiography!

I have loved Amy for a while so I had high expectations for her book. I am thrilled with how much I loved it. She is funny, real, raw, and shares so much of her incredible life. I highly recommend it!
