Publisher's Summary

"Amy's got your back. She's in your corner. She's an honesty bomb. And she's coming for you." (Actress Tilda Swinton, Trainwreck costar)

The Emmy Award-winning comedian, actress, writer, and star of Inside Amy Schumer and the acclaimed film Trainwreck has taken the entertainment world by storm with her winning blend of smart, satirical humor. Now Amy Schumer has written a refreshingly candid and uproariously funny collection of (extremely) personal and observational essays.

In The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo, Amy mines her past for stories about her teenage years, her family, relationships, and sex and shares the experiences that have shaped who she is - a woman with the courage to bare her soul to stand up for what she believes in, all while making us laugh. Down to earth and relatable, frank and unapologetic, Amy Schumer is one of us: She relies on her sister for advice, still hangs out with her high school pals, and continues to navigate the ever-changing boundaries in love, work, and life.

Ranging from the raucous to the romantic, the heartfelt to the harrowing, this highly entertaining and universally appealing collection is the literary equivalent of a night out with your best friend - an unforgettable and fun adventure that you wish could last forever. Whether she's experiencing lust at first sight while in the airport security line, sharing her own views on love and marriage, admitting to being an introvert, or discovering her cross-fit instructor's secret bad habit, Amy Schumer proves to be a bighearted, brave, and thoughtful storyteller that will leave you nodding your head in recognition, laughing out loud, and sobbing uncontrollably - but only because it's over.

An enjoyable listen, thanks Amy!

I really enjoyed her clever take on life. She shares her struggles, fears and silly moments. I felt like my good friend was telling me some of her darkness secrets. I'm a bigger fan now that I've listen to this book. #Audible1

Below expectation

This book is filled with airhead contents and profanity. Expected funny content from a stand up comedian but got nothing but mombo jumbo! Not everyone can pick up a pen and write for the sake of writing. Total waste of time and money.

I really enjoyed listening to this book.

Great sense of humor, and I love how unapologetically open and honest she was about her life!

Not a fan of the book

I’m a fan of Amy Schumer but not this book. She lost me in the chapter where she talked about how philanthropic she was with her friends after making it. It was a long painful listen.

confused

I don't know exactly what I expected, but I like Amy and I thought this book would make me laugh and cheer me up, as Amy often does. It didn't. When watching a life comedian, sometimes it's just body language or facial expression that makes you laugh, not words. This book more of autobiography with sad life stories, oversharing and exaggerated silliness for laughs.

I laughed and I cried

...and I couldn't stop listening. I loved the lessons she described she learned, the self conference she earned for herself, it's worth a lot. I wasn't a big fan of swearing, but that is who she is and I ended up not noticing it anymore half way through. Thanks, Amy! Best wishes!

Only a few actual "lol" moments

I love her. But this wasn't as amazing as I'd hoped. I definitely don't want to bash, I'm just saying that I hope her next one is better. Still a fan!

Love her, love this book

I loved reading this in 2020 knowing how much her life has changed. Such a great book though. Very real and honest. 10/10 recommend.

DON'T spend your MONEY or CREDITS on this!

The book doesn't stay on an organized topic, the material is all over the place, and going back and forth quickly between uncomfortable subjects and then funny subjects...It does not do this book any justice, and it most certainly made me stop reading it.

Wasted one of my credits on this

I couldn't even finish this. She just goes on and on about her success and how she's shares her wealth with people. She likes to make crass jokes that lose their appeal when it's kind of the same thing over and over. She sounds like a 14 year old bragging and trying to be cool. The reading lacks emotion. It's like listening to a kid reading aloud in class at times.

So very relatable

The only thing she could have to make this better, was to make it longer! I can't for the next book... no matter what the title hahaha! inside book joke.

depressing and sad.

I bought this book hoping to laugh however Amy tells very heavy stories about her childhood that are both depressing and awkward.

mind numbing

I love Amy Schumers comedy, however I feel like someone said to her she needed a book, and threw in a poorly planned semi biography. the entire book could be summarized as "people think I'm like __,but I'm really like__."

honestly it came off as tone deaf between bragging about being "new money" or how good she was at stealing. It had the potential to be a lot better. oh well.

moments were funny, but mostly poor, amateur writing

I like her comedy but I was very disappointed by this book. There were very funny moments but for the most part it was cringeworthy. It was like she filled out a bunch of those facebook surveys "30 things you don't know about me " and turned it into a memoir. I still like her and her work, but she's not a writer and I would recommend skipping this book if you want to preserve your good image of her .

Don't bother.

I could not enjoy this book. I really tried but she said "footnote," like 50 times in a row and talked about naming her stuff animal and gossiping about her friends at age 9. Really not interested sorry!

A lot of human feces stories.

I like Amy but returned the book. Was not for me. Many sad stories. I'm sure it was cathartic for her.

Looking for humor? Look elsewhere.

I had this book in my wish list for awhile, I was really excited when it was finally released. I like Amy Schumer and expected to laugh throughout this book. Unfortunately each chapter was a total bummer.
From her dad's battle with MS to sexual assault with one guy to being physically abused by a different guy and a theater shooting. None of these serious subjects offered a laugh (and rightfully so.) It's interesting but if you are looking for a laugh, look elsewhere, there's no humor here.

Overall not that funny of a book

Wouldn't really recommend in any way. Listening thru audible was the only way I got thru it. If I had to read it, then I would have never made it to the end. Only got a light chuckle here & there. Definitely not a crack up. More sad than anything else. Seemed like Amy was looking for everyone to feel sorry for her & her life up to this point. While trying to mix in a little comedy to certain situations.

mehhhh

it's not that this is really that boring, but it is unoriginal and inconsistent. I'd say, unless you're a real Amy Schumer fan, you can avoid this.

A funny and powerful autobiography!

I have loved Amy for a while so I had high expectations for her book. I am thrilled with how much I loved it. She is funny, real, raw, and shares so much of her incredible life. I highly recommend it!
