Publisher's Summary

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Darynda Jones comes a new story in her Charley Davidson series...

The job should have been easy.

Get in. Assess the situation. Get out. But for veteran tracker Quentin Rutherford, things get sticky when the girl he’s loved since puberty shows up, conducting her own investigation into the strange occurrences of the small, New Mexico town. He knew it would be a risk coming back to the area, but he had no idea Amber Kowalski had become a bona fide PI, investigating things that go bump in the night. He shouldn’t be surprised, however. She can see through the dead as clearly as he can. The real question is, can she see through him?

But is anything that’s worth it ever easy?

To say that Amber is shocked to see her childhood crush would be the understatement of her fragile second life. One look at him tells her everything she needs to know. He’s changed. So drastically she barely recognizes him. He is savage now, a hardened - in all the right places - demon hunter, and she is simply the awkward, lovestruck girl he left behind.

But she doesn’t have time to dwell on the past. A supernatural entity has set up shop, and it’s up to them to stop it before it kills again.

While thousands of questions burn inside her, she has to put her concern over him, over what he’s become, aside for now. Because he’s about to learn one, undeniable fact: she’s changed, too.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new listeners, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

What the critics say

“Narrator Lorelei King provides an entertaining and skilled performance of this audiobook…. King keeps listeners' attention throughout the fast-paced story. She expertly switches between the various characters' unique voices. Though this is only a taste of the series, King's narration will entice listeners to order the full meal.” AudioFile Magazine

Disappointed :(

I was so hoping that this story would continue to move the series towards Beep & Osh. I didn’t even feel like I knew the Quintin & Amber characters. As always though, Lorelei King was fabulous.

Q&A investigation is all grown up!!!

I have been listening to the Charley Davidson books for years. Darynda Jones has become one of my favorite authors! It was great to hear what happened to Quentin and Amber when they grew up. I hope this isn't the last we hear from them.

Amber and Quentin!!

I'm so happy that we get Amber and Quentin's story. It was hard not to still envision them as teenagers still but I loved getting to see them again. I think it's awesome that Amber has stepped into Charlie's private investigator shoes. The only complaint I have is that I wish there was more. I could keep reading this series forever!

Same story line 🤷🏼‍♀️ but still enjoyable

I generally liked the Charley Davidson books, so I do like the continuation, although it's basically a rehash of the same story that's been told repeatedly. It's just with different names on characters who behave the same as the ones who came previously. Same romantic misunderstandings, same unlikely make-up sex, etc.
But still entertaining (as long as you go into understanding what you're getting), & Lorelei King really brings the whole thing to life!

Awesome catch up with Amber and Quinton

I loved that the author has done some novellas to tell us what’s happening with the Charlie Davidson gang. I totally think she should do a series around Amber and Quinton. Amber was one of my favorite characters from the original series.

Amber & Quinton Continue

Excellent as usual. The story opens up an entire new, and interesting series if Jones chooses to do so.

disappointed

I've devoured all things Charlie Davidson, but I couldn't make it through this one. The story is one-note and Amber and Quentin have grown away from the characters we met in the series. It's so stand-alone that, without the big story of BEP and the gang propping it up, this story collapses. The other 1001 Nights story was ok, and I will give the third a whirl. Lorelei King is, as always, fantastic at giving everyone their voice.
