Publisher's Summary

New York Times bestselling author B. A. Paris captivated psychological thriller fans everywhere with Behind Closed Doors. Now she invites you into another home full of heart-pounding secrets, in The Guest.

Some secrets never leave.

Iris and Gabriel have just arrived home from a make-or-break holiday. But a shock awaits them. One of their closest friends, Laure, is in their house. The atmosphere quickly becomes tense as she oversteps again and again: sleeping in their bed, wearing Iris' clothes, even rearranging the furniture.

Laure has walked out on her husband—and their good friend—Pierre, over his confession of an affair and a secret child. Iris and Gabriel want to be supportive of their friends, but as Laure's mood becomes increasingly unpredictable, her presence takes its toll.

Iris and Gabriel's only respite comes in the form of a couple new to town. But with them comes their gardener, who has a checkered past.

Soon, secrets from all their pasts will unravel, some more dangerous than they could have known.

didn’t see that coming

I’m always a fan of BA Paris. It kept me guessing and I didn’t see the twists coming.

Not BA’s best

Contains pacing spoilers.

Several hours into this book I assumed I was in for a slow burn where the story would unfold cleverly. Unfortunately this book is yet another lazy novel where everything is conveniently explained in the epilogue. What happened in the book is not in fact what happened and all the inaccuracies are divulged at the very end. A 3 star is generous.

a little slow

Usually love Paris' books but I found this one to be quite slow and underwhelming. I listened on 1.5 because otherwise it was too draggy and I'd lose interest.

Disappointing

I absolutely love B A Paris and all her previous books, so I am disappointed with the plot and characters of this book. The main character is not like able and the plot centers around the house guest Lore who is even more of an annoying character. I can get past characters that don’t have depth or much likability but I can’t overlook narrators that flat out lie, it feels like lazy plot to reveal the lies or the information that the reader wasn’t privy too in an epilogue. I thought the hook do the story was catchy but the execution left me dissatisfied and annoyed. I should have just read the first couple chapters then the epilogue. I’m still a huge fan but this was not a good one by this author. I also found the performance added a bit of an annoyance with their French accent, it didn’t seem authentic and was distracting.
