Couldn't enjoy the reading because of the bad audio towards the end of sentences. Would try again if fixed.

Audio wasn't good towards the end of sentences.

Dull narration and poor sound recording spoilt what could have been a good book. Each sentence started loud and ended on a whisper. The monotonous tone of voice made the whole narrative sound like a sermon and totally distracted me from the storyline. The best delivery was the narrator’s rendition of Pixie! This is the second audio book I’ve listened to by Nina Manning that has been murdered by bad narration.

Disappointing

I found it hard to listen as the the Narrators voice often became so quiet at the end of a long sentence that I could barely make it out. I’d turn up the volume but the beginning of the sentence was unbearably loud. The volume was more distracting then anything. The more I think of it It sounds like she (Nicky Diss) was running out of breath in long sentences.

Good but…

The recording was very poor. Each sentence seemed to go quiet near the end. Loved the story and performance

The story wasn’t bad overall, but the ending was just so disappointing. Didn’t really make sense to me. Like the writer tries to steer you in every directions, but then it ends up in the most random one.
The narration is a bit annoying too, starts their sentences really loudly and ends in a whisper.

Falls flat

The title to me was not keeping with the story in my eyes . Narration was good. I will probably check out future novels just to have more experience with this author’s work.

Kept my interest

I had difficulty with the performance as her voice softened/drifted off at times and made it difficult to hear. I enjoyed her accent though.

The story itself held my interest.

Interesting Story

I enjoyed this very much, but the ending was thoroughly disappointing and underwhelming. It was almost predictable.

Enjoyed this

I personally wouldnt reccomend this book, it felt very drawn out and did not grip me very much, I only finished it just to know what happened. The ending was a let down as well in my opinion. I didnt notice as signifigant of an audio issue as others have described, but there was one for sure.

It was very meh

This Psychological Thriller from Nina Manning is actually passable. The plot (involving an "I Know What You Did Last Summer" stalker and the remote death of a guilt-ridden mess of a woman's brother) is twisty-turny & interesting, the characters are complex, flawed & relatable, and the writing (vocabulary, prose, etc) is capable. Unfortunately, the pathos is too much and the "Traumatic Tragic Death" is built up relentlessly but turns out to be pedestrian, On top of those deficiencies in the story, Manning is heavy-handed with description (overburdening readers with detail), and the pacing is a little off - but the book is nevertheless readable.

Unfortunately, concerns voiced by other reviewers are 100% accurate. Nicky Diss reads with creditable diction, timbre, and tone but has a weird cadence. She sounds like she's: (a) running out of breath by the end of any given sentence of moderate length; (b) frequently getting bored with the text mid-sentence; or (c) actively moving away from the microphone as she reads.
Compounding the problem: Boldwood Books sound engineers do nothing to correct the obvious volume issues.

The subpar performance and frankly lazy adherence to quality standards drop my opinion of the book. 'The Guilty Wife' rates a mere 3.5 stars out of 10 (if you really want to read the book, maybe try a paper/eBook version). It wasn't a complete waste of time, I suppose, but unless you can get the recording for free (as I did), don't bother.

[Incidentally: Is there a more British term than "scarpered"?]

Not Horrible.. but that Volume Modulation..
