Publisher's Summary

Intrigue, riches, and romance abound in this thrilling sequel to the New York Times best-selling The Inheritance Games.

The Inheritance Games ended with a bombshell, and now heiress Avery Grambs has to pick up the pieces and find the man who might hold the answers to all of her questions - including why Tobias Hawthorne left his entire fortune to Avery, a virtual stranger, rather than to his own daughters or grandsons.

Thanks to a DNA test, Avery knows that she’s not a Hawthorne by blood, but clues pile up hinting at a deeper connection to the family than she had ever imagined. As the mystery grows and the plot thickens, Grayson and Jameson, two of the enigmatic and magnetic Hawthorne grandsons, continue to pull Avery in different directions. And there are threats lurking around every corner, as adversaries emerge who will stop at nothing to see Avery out of the picture - by any means necessary.

With nonstop action, aspirational jet-setting, Knives Out-like family intrigue, swoon-worthy romance, and billions of dollars hanging in the balance, The Hawthorne Legacy will thrill Jennifer Lynn Barnes fans and new listeners alike.

DNF for the last few chapters

First book was cute. Narrator shouldn’t do voices for characters as she was inconsistent. Overall I just didn’t care about the will they won’t they romance, he is her dad he isn’t her dad drama. First book had some fun surprises but this one the little puzzles were painful. DNF

I was here for the ride!

Fantastic follow up to the first book. I forgot how much I really liked the first book until I re-listened to it prior to this books release. LOVED IT! The pace of it is fast and wonderful, I love the complicated nature of the family, and loved hearing everything unfold. Well done!

The 2nd not bad

There were a lot of twists and turns. And at times, it seemed like the storyline was being drugged out. Towards the end, is where the story started picking up steam for me.
I would also agree Avery‘s wishy-washy vibes were annoying, and the fake triangle romance that was not happening “but happening” between the two brothers was also irritating. Nevertheless my niece and I enjoyed the book we look forward to reading the next installment. But we both think the first was better.

Holy Pacing Issues, Batman!

I think the overall Inheritance games story and trilogy will definitely be a good one, but this book suffered heavily from Sequel-itis. The pacing was just all off - the first part of the book dragged, and it seemed like not much was happening, then all of a sudden that last 10% was just packed with very little resolution or emotional payout. I hope in the third book Barnes actually takes the time to explore all of the small things she briefly implied in this book, including the side characters that are, frankly, a lot more interesting than some of the main characters. I want to hear about Nash and Xander, not wallow in the "will they won't they" on the other two brothers.

Did I love this book? Not really. Will I read the next one as soon as it's out? Absolutely. I just hope we get more of what made the original so engaging in the final installment

Awesome book

I am loving this series! I love the story and the characters and all the riddles and mysteries. I’ve been taking notes as I’ve read so I could play their games and follow the clues too. I can’t wait for the third book!!

Thoroughly enjoyable

What a fun book. Suitable for YA audiences but enjoyable for adults. I love the narrator, she did a fabulous job. I can't wait for the final book to come out next year.

I like it

I like the book and the narrator has a great voice. It’s just kind of annoying when she gets her characters voice wrong or make one of the Hawthorne boys sound like max.

I! love! this! book!!!

Oh my gosh!!! I don’t even know where to start. I love how this book takes place basically right after Inheritance games. I also love how the author brings the past events that happened in the Inheritance games, but doesn’t go through this big long backstory explaining everything.
I also love some of those plot twists. I mean a lot of them I didn’t see coming. There were also some where I thought I knew where they were going and then it just went in a completely different direction. I could guess some of them, but not most of them. It’s hard to find a book like that.
I don’t know if this series is over. It left off at a point where it could be, but I really hope that Jennifer Lynn Barnes continues writing books in the series. I love Avery, and the Hawthorne boys. I would love to see them come back in another book.

Excellent teen intrigue

This is another excellent story of intrigue by Barnes, a master storyteller. wonderful plot. An unfortunate reading of a brilliant story. The reader did a poor job of differentiating characters.

The treasure hunt continues

This is a very strong continuation of the series. We learn a lot from this book and get some major insight into several of our main characters. We also get an introduction into some new characters and some of our secondary characters make appearances which was really nice to see them interacting with everyone. There’s a lot of fun, intrigue and the author definitely knows how to keep you interested, especially in the treasure hunt! There were definitely those moments throughout the book where I thought this was a little bit odd but for the most part it’s a really good listen and I was very happy how the story turned out for most of our characters. There’s even an opening at the end for third book, which I have now found and it confirmed to be a trilogy so that is pretty exciting. You will definitely enjoy the ride and when everything comes crashing and converging into onepointfor the ah ha moment. The narrator was brought back for the second book in the series and she does another wonderful job. All the voices for the characters were kept consistent and she even got the chance to add some new voices, while keeping those scenes with tension very very tight. There is a lot to love about this series and even more to love about the performance.
