Publisher's Summary
Intrigue, riches, and romance abound in this thrilling sequel to the New York Times best-selling The Inheritance Games.
The Inheritance Games ended with a bombshell, and now heiress Avery Grambs has to pick up the pieces and find the man who might hold the answers to all of her questions - including why Tobias Hawthorne left his entire fortune to Avery, a virtual stranger, rather than to his own daughters or grandsons.
Thanks to a DNA test, Avery knows that she’s not a Hawthorne by blood, but clues pile up hinting at a deeper connection to the family than she had ever imagined. As the mystery grows and the plot thickens, Grayson and Jameson, two of the enigmatic and magnetic Hawthorne grandsons, continue to pull Avery in different directions. And there are threats lurking around every corner, as adversaries emerge who will stop at nothing to see Avery out of the picture - by any means necessary.
With nonstop action, aspirational jet-setting, Knives Out-like family intrigue, swoon-worthy romance, and billions of dollars hanging in the balance, The Hawthorne Legacy will thrill Jennifer Lynn Barnes fans and new listeners alike.

Games and twists fun, but romance falls flat
This was a fast-paced action with lots of great plot twists and games, but could have used more character development especially of Avery and the Hawthornes, one in particular. The romance part of it fell flatter than the first pancake of the batch. If you're going to write it in, do it fully, and properly. Make it clear what the protagonist wants, why she wants it, and why her special beau is right for her. And give her some thrill of the chase! The beau she ended up with seemed to land in Avery's lap only because of the shortcomings of another character.

DNF for the last few chapters
First book was cute. Narrator shouldn’t do voices for characters as she was inconsistent. Overall I just didn’t care about the will they won’t they romance, he is her dad he isn’t her dad drama. First book had some fun surprises but this one the little puzzles were painful. DNF

A fantastic second book in the trilogy!!!
This series is so well written! It grabs you from the beginning of book one, and when that book ends you need book two immediately! Book two also grabs you right away and keeps your attention until the end, when you are dying for book three!!!
The plot flows beautifully with the mystery, relationships and suddenly growing up in the line light! There are no slow moments in the story at all! The characters are so amazing!! They are well rounded, in depth characters that you love to love and love to hate!! They are young adults living in a very wealthy world, with a large estate with tunnels, mazes, secret passageways, walled off secret rooms and lots of clues and puzzles to solve!!! It’s such an intriguing game!!!
The narrator is fantastic at bringing the author’s story to life!!

Great YA mystery book
Loved the first book The Inheritance Games in the series and worried the second would be missing something (as that sometimes happens in a trilogy). But Barnes does a fabulous job keeping the plot going with interesting characters and conflicts. For parents, this is PG enough to not worry you (if you’re that kind of parent).
