The first book was amazing! This one was a slog

I love the world building in the first book and was very excited to read the latest volume. Unfortunately, the back-and-forthing between two narrators to bring two sides of the story together was sort of neat but ultimately distracting. I think this was partly the case because I wasn't crazy about the male narrator's voice and the fact that he pronounced some names and places differently than the female narrator. She did a great job with her side of narration but this book just didn't pull me in the way the first one did. I'm not sure if I would read a third installment if one comes out.

Again, great book, iffy narration.

I really enjoyed this story. can't wait for the next.

I did have to constantly adjust my volume because of the narrator. its annoying.

An Excellent Follow-up to The Bone Witch

Although it took me quite some time to finish this audiobook, it was not because it was difficult or unengaging. To the contrary, it was an excellent book that had I been just reading, would have been finished with months ago. This was simply a matter of not making enough time to listen often enough.

Also, I will repeat a sentiment that I hope I remembered to offer when I reviewed The Bone Witch...these narrators, Emily Woo Zeller in particular, are just phenomenal and totally MAKE these books. I look forward to other books narrated by her in the future.

Regarding the story itself, Chupeco writes exceptionally well also. The story is engaging even when there isn't a ton of action going on, though there IS plenty in this novel. He also made this into a very BALANCED read. No crazy twists or an outrageous number of sad events that weren't bouyed by some other activity or action. This was no disappointment by any means!

This series is the best I've read in awhile.

It keeps you on your toes and keeps you guessing. It has drama, romance, and so much more. I can't wait for the next book to come out.

Amazing series

I hope that this series has a happy ending. I love the descriptions of the Deva and I love the main character. The female narrator did and excellent job of portraying all the characters, and especially Tia. The male narrator was unimaginative and portrayed Tia as mysterious and hysterical where the female would have portrayed her as gloomy but strong. Also, the male narrator seemed to have the same voice for each character, while the female narrator was so incredibly exact with each voice that I could tell even when a minor character had started speaking. Overall an amazing book.

Ummmm ... what??

I’m still confused. I really have no idea what is going on. This book was a bit of a disappointment. There’s some great parts but so much happens so fast and the back and forth from pst to present gets a bit muddled and confusing. Sadly the first book was actually better.

Story is great, performer is good for most part.

It was almost perfect except for the instances where she sounded like Batman when doing certain voices.
