Publisher's Summary

Only one man could set her heart ablaze....

Lady Averill Mortagne learned to control her fierce temper as a young girl. But if her father insists on parading her before one more English lord who looks askance at her flame-colored hair, she'll simply scream! Her only respite is the time she spends with Kade Stewart, the wounded Scot her brother brought home from the Crusades. Who could have imagined a Highland warrior would be the only gentleman around?

Lady Averill helped save his life, and for that Kade is truly grateful. She is also almost unbearably beautiful, but he could never subject such a sweet and gentle lady to the rough life of a Stewart laird's bride... or could he? When she braves an unexpected danger by his side, Averill will prove to Kade that her heart is as fiery as her hair ...and that submitting to their scorching passion would be heaven indeed.

Not too bad

The reader sounded a little slurring most of the time. Maybe a little pep occasionally to add some spark to the story.

Unexpected and Enjoyable...

Marianna Palka has a wonderful accent, easy to understand and just enough Scott to make this story's period nature enjoyable. I wondered, early on, how the heroine could be considered a "Hellion", and by today's standards, I still hold true to this statement. But, if you listen closely, she's her own kind of assertive, which, in her time, could make her get a reputation as a "Hellion". A girl with a birthmark on her cheek and fire red hair, English Lady Avril is a healer with a quiet heart and a stutter around strangers. What no one realizes is that cold water baths and a determined mother is what made her so. At her heart, if Lady Avril is wronged and then filled with too much whiskey (her father's cure for stuttering,) then the assertive, happy, spunky natured chit that is Lady Avril comes out to play. Thanks to this, Cade, a Scottish warrior friend of Avril's brother, Will, agrees to take Avril on as wife. Unfortunately, both Avril and Cade have no idea of all of the trials awaiting them in their effort to right Cade's castle home in Scotland. It will take all of Avril's training and Cade's loving fierceness to overcome a drunken Laird father, drunken twin brothers, and a murderer trying to take them all down.

Worst Narrator in history

I hate to say this but I ca not comment about the book due to the Narrators voice. Ms Palka sounds like she is reading while falling asleep. She has the most flat and emotionless voice I have ever had the misfortune of hearing. Every time I try and listen to the book I either want to go to sleep or start feeling depressed that I actually purchased something that Ms. Palka narrated. I will now have to buy the book because there is no way I will ever be able to listen to this entire book in audio format as long as Ms. Palka is the narrator.

"Good Book, BAD narrator"

I was all excited about starting a new book so I purchased Hellion and the Highlander. I was disappointed the narrator's. Her voice was very bland. I diid get through the book but though about turing it off a couple of times. Send Marianna to Rosalyn Landor for some lessons.

Another great one by Lynsay Sands

I loved this one. It had twists and turns that you never saw coming. There was just enough romance and intrigue. If you have any of the other Highlander books you must get this one too!!

Good story, Bad Narrator

I really liked the story but the Narrator sounded like she was reading a eulogy. It was a weird combination since the book has funny incidents that are read with a sad sounding cadence.

Love those Highlanders

Great book. I read this one first, I didn't realize there were 2 other books before this. This reads very well as a stand alone. But I can't wait to read the first 2.

My favourite of the 3 books

What did you love best about The Hellion and the Highlander?

I loved the repartee between Averil and Kade.
Averil thinks she is unattractive, and plain.
Kade thinks she is stunning, smart and funny (which she is).

What other book might you compare The Hellion and the Highlander to and why?

Similar to The Bride by Julie Garwood

Which scene was your favorite?

The best scene is, while drunk and cursing, she begins to tell Kade (and her brother) about throwing up on her would-be mother-in-law. Laugh out loud funny.

Who was the most memorable character of The Hellion and the Highlander and why?

Averil

Any additional comments?

Great Highland Novel
