Publisher's Summary
First published in 1682, John Bunyan's allegorical novel The Holy War is a classic of Christian literature whose spiritual insight rivals that of even his most famous work, The Pilgrim's Progress. It tells the story of Mansoul, a utopia built to exalt the greatness and honor of its creator and leader, King Shaddai. However, when the wicked Diabolus, a former high servant of Shaddai's and the king of the blacks, assaults Mansoul, the town forgets its benevolent king and falls under his iniquitous rule. With the citizens of his beloved city lost to sin and vice, Shaddai sends his son, Prince Emmanuel, to deliver them from Diabolus' tyranny.
An epic tale of good versus evil, The Holy War is not only a masterpiece of religious literature, but also an entertaining and engaging story for all listeners.

The Holy War
This story could be the virtual reality behind today's headlines. I thought the temperament of the narrative was done in the 16th century style without the poetic language of the King James version. Nevertheless the timeless tactics of spiritually evil forces at work against good are the same today as they were when this was written. The good news is that "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."

Nit quite "A Pilgrim's Progress"
It was a great read and makes a Christian thinks about how we go about day to day. Backsliding is easy because it happens silently a small bit at a time until we are engrossed by sin.

prophetic book
I think this book is not only relevant for one's own life, but also prophetic for our culture: how diabolic people and religions try to overcome our Judeo-Christian cultures, and how we can overcome those attempts. Whereas it could be, and perhaps is, used as a dense theological study, even a child can understand it at some level. It is also in a beautiful language, and nicely written.

Like the concept
Good concept, a little tough to stay with the details as the story went on and on. Wanted to love The Holy War like I did the Pilgrims Progress, walked away getting the allegory quickly enough, but the length hurt this one.

Most compelling story I have ever read
This is a wonderful allegory of the Christian’s walk with Jesus. The narrator also was fantastic. I had chills, I smiled, I was horrified and then ecstatic. I was weeping by the end. Please listen.

Excellent story and exceptional reading.
Of course this is a classic by a masterful storyteller John Bunyan. The insights, creativity, and wisdom that is given in this story ought to be heard by many believers. The narrator was exceptional in his ability to communicate the nuances of the text in a way that intrigued, instructed, and validated the power of the text. Very good job Audible.

So true to life our walk with God. A book for reflection and self examination if one has the desire for eternity with Jesus.
