"The dirty little secret about most organizing advice is that it's written by organized people," says blogger, speaker, and decluttering expert Dana K. White. "But that's not how my brain works. I'm lost on page three." Dana blogs at A Slob Comes Clean, chronicling her successes and failures with her self-described "deslobification process". In the beginning she used the name Nony (short for aNONYmous), because she was sharing her deep, dark slob secret. Now she has truly come clean - with not only her real name but the strategies she has developed.

Story
Most organizational books on the market profess to have a one-size-fits-all solution to home organization. Common anthems are to: go paperless, get rid of everything that doesn't spark joy, and capsulize your wardrobe. While some find success using these methods, the majority of American women are facing decades of delayed decisions piled high in unmarked boxes and shoved in storage rooms bursting at the seams. Fifteen-minute-a-day organization tips and color coordinated plastic boxes are no match for the memories and clutter contained in those rooms.

When it comes to the “hard seasons” of life - the death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job - transformation seems impossible when grief and uncertainty dominate your days. Especially when, as Didn’t See that Coming reveals, no one asks to have their future completely rearranged for them. But, as Rachel writes, it is up to you how you come through your pain - you can come through changed for the better, having learned and grown, or stuck in place where your identity becomes rooted in what hurt you.

Publisher's Summary
There’s decorating, and then there’s organizing. From the Instagram-sensation home experts (with a serious fan club that includes Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Mindy Kaling), here is an accessible, room-by-room guide to establishing new order in your home.
Believe this: Every single space in your house has the potential to function efficiently and look great. The mishmash of summer and winter clothes in the closet? Yep. Even the dreaded junk drawer? Consider it done. And the best news: It’s not hard to do - in fact, it's a lot of fun.
From the home organizers who made their orderly eye candy the method that everyone swears by comes Joanna and Clea’s signature approach to decluttering. The Home Edit walks you through paring down your belongings in every room, arranging them in a stunning and easy-to-find way (hello, labels!), and maintaining the system, so you don't need another do-over in six months. When you're done, you'll not only know exactly where to find things, but you'll also love the way it looks.
The Home Edit is a masterclass filled with detailed tips, from placing plastic dishware in a drawer where little hands can reach to categorizing pantry items by color (there's nothing like a little ROYGBIV to soothe the soul). Above all, it's like having your best friends at your side to help you turn the chaos into calm.
Includes a PDF with resources to help you stay inspired and T.H.E. fridge labels.

"The Home Edit has grown a loyal celebrity and social media following thanks to a streamlined philosophy that’s often delivered with some hilarious punch lines. Their new book is a room-by-room guide to this philosophy." (ArchitecturalDigest.com)
"In a nutshell, when the stars need help with a mess, they call The Home Edit. Not to worry, though, the ladies of the business have a book coming out that will give all their tips and tricks, so you can have a Hollywood-worthy pantry as well." (Realtor.com)

Very hard to enjoy without pictures
I thought there was a link to pictures to go with the book. The link was a list of "resources" which is the blogs/Instagrams/stores they are promoting with the book. That's okay to include, but I was hoping for more. I had a hard time because the verbal-only descriptions were not very detailed so I couldn't really picture much of the work they were talking about. If you are a paper book buyer, this is probably a good purchase, especially if you like their signature look. Maybe skip the audio book version unless you are already a superfan.

Awful... just Awful
Not audiobook Material, author uses simple childish language, constantly references pictures instead of describing setting. I cannot believe I spent money on this. The audiobook sounds like a narrated Valley-Girl high school paper.
TLDR: Buy organizers, use labels, get Pinterest. I just saved you three hours of painful listening.

More Visual Than Audio
I was hoping for more tips and formulas maybe even more stories about organizing but it turns out it's just Instagram the book edition. If your exploring home organizing pick up this book at your library and skip the audio book.
I enjoyed the book and the audio overall as a passive action but half the book is them describing pictures and then reading their side notes. It becomes very predictable very quickly. I would have enjoyed them discussing how they reach conclusions and more about how to resolve the conflict that arises when you do organize an area. This book is also focused primarily on mothers, so understand that going in.

I liked the narrators! They are as fun in this audiobook as they are on Instagram. I loved the practical tips they supplied. It’s inspired me to organize my spaces more strategically. I never do this, but I’m planning to buy a physically copy of this book — the audiobook and the print book are required! It’s just that good.

Excellent!
If you love and follow Joanna and Clea like I do then you will love this book. They both read it and its hilarious how they describe the pictures and a few items. Couldn't stop laughing at the "battery operated... exfoliator." I wish the PDF came with a few pictures I could have looked at, it is the second time I am hearing this book so now I am taking notes before I head out to The Container Store. First project, which I am constantly working on is my kitchen. This time they did help me with the function part of things and having all like items together. I had all my baking items spread out, so it is nice having all organized. I already feel like I am part of THE, HA! Yes you can just get ideas from their IG or even Pinterest, but having them read and describe and walk you through the process is priceless, and after all it is #Robertaapproved.
