About this listen

Three newlywed couples arrive on Bali’s Honeymoon Island, expecting two weeks of bliss. It’s a five-star luxury all-inclusive experience. White beaches, endless cocktails, and Instagram-perfect moments await. But beneath the tropical paradise, dark secrets threaten to ruin everything.

Timothy and Jonah, wealthy entrepreneurs with a spoiled son, hide sins from their past—one involving a death on a cruise, the other a crime in Bali.

Nathan and Samantha, the hot ex-nanny turned trophy wife, grapple with infertility and a shocking paternity secret.

Bartosz and Angelika (he’s a chef, she’s a former sex worker) carry debts to the other couples they don’t even realize they owe.

Over fourteen days, the couples bond—but their pasts are too deeply intertwined to stay hidden. The sly concierge, Putu, knows more than he lets on. And as bodies are discovered on days 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11, paradise turns into a nightmare.

Will anyone make it off the island unscathed—or alive? Welcome to Honeymoon Island, where secrets come to die.

This addictive psychological thriller full of twists is perfect for fans of The White Lotus, Lucy Foley, Liane Moriarty, Lucy Clarke, Sarah Goodwin and T.M. Logan.

An intriguing & attention captivating listen

I loved this listen. I love it when there are different characters played by different speakers/actors, each presenting their point of view.
I was on the edge of my seat. A delightful murder mystery!

Hold on tight!

This book is something else! It is unlike anything I have ever read or listened to before. Full of twists and turns and blind sides you never saw coming, I really enjoyed it. I like how the author chose 3 central characters to focus on and tells their stories while keeping the pace of the going and telling story chronologically. Well written, easy to listen to and enjoyable.

Who did it?

I was intrigued right from the beginning. Lots of twists.

My biggest issue is its multi cast but it’s not “duet” style narration. Why? Why have multiple cast members but they aren’t narrating their own parts? Make it make sense. That being said, the narrators did a great job when they were voicing their own parts.

Bring Pushpins and Thread

The connections between the characters in this Jane E. James story are bewildering. Just keeping track of them is a challenge. I could easily envision a giant corkboard with color-coded strings leading from A->B->C->A. James weaves past encounters together nicely and drops revelation after revelation with commendable pacing.. but expects a little too much of her readers in this one. Those past encounters and character reactions to them are simply ludicrous. I truly tried to suspend disbelief but this tale is just too hard to swallow.

As to presentation: Readers Rose Robinson, Leah Marks, Leena Makoff, and Sean Burke are nearly flawless - and undeniably professional - notwithstanding the European accent for the 'Angelika' character by one of them being a touch heavyhanded. In toto, Audible Studios Inc. provides a solidly "above-average" production.

Altogether, 'The Honeymoon' merits 5.5 stars out of 10. You might have better luck than I did in setting aside reservations - and the book is certainly worth your time for free - but better options beckon elsewhere for your Credit should they ask for one.
