À propos de cet audio

Notes from the author: The following is a short story I wrote in the Elantris world back in January of 2006. At that point, Elantris had been out in stores for only about seven or eight months, but I actually hadn’t written anything new on the story or world since 2000, when I’d finished the first draft of the original book.

There were always a few holes in the manuscript where I decided not to include viewpoints or sections of explanation in the name of streamlining, particularly at the end. In the back of my mind, I knew what happened. This story talks about one of those holes; it is meant to be heard after you’ve finished the novel and takes place during the events of the climax. In the annotation, I’ve written a further explanation of why I wrote this piece. Some of you may find it interesting to hear this ahead of time; I put it in the annotation, however, as I know others would rather enjoy the story without bias beforehand, then hear my thoughts afterward. Either way, if you haven’t listened to Elantris, this contains major spoilers. Might I suggest listening to the book first? This story won’t work at all for you if you haven’t.

Performed by Colleen Delany, Kimberly Gilbert, Mort Shelby, James Lewis, Richard Rohan, Michael John Casey, Danny Gavigan, Tracy Olivera, Eric Messner, Nanette Savard, Chris Davenport, Evan Casey, Scott McCormick, Ken Jackson, Timothy Lynch, Thomas Penny, Rose Elizabeth Supan.

Nice to fill in the gap of what happened in Elantris at the very end. But the pronunciation of the Elantris-specific words drove me crazy. I’m guessing that’s how they are pronounced in the other graphic audio versions. But I listened to the Jack Garrett version (recorded 5 years earlier than this) and I just don’t see why the actors couldn’t have done their homework on some of the key pronunciations. Of course there would be slight differences but this version ruined some of the beautiful words Sanderson created. Thank goodness it was only half an hour.

Good energy but poor pronunciation

Story is good in the context of Elantris; some voices are good but some (especially children) are excruciatingly bad. A lot of music and other sound effects were quite distracting.

Entertaining, but brief

Great story, and interesting addition to the book. The issue is that they are pronouncing names and things differently from the other Graphic Audio installments of Elantris. You would expect them to stay consistent to their previous performances. Ruins it a bit.

Pronunciation is off

Great little tie in to Elantris. Only 30mins, but brought tears to my eyes.

Only 30 mins, but man, it's a banger!

Saiens voice is frigging weird, took me right out of the story. Story is ok. I wonder at the Elantrians practicing the new aions before he had restored Elantris’ power…

Voices of children are terrible. Trying to get an adult to sound like a child creates something monstrous or irritating.

It’s ok
