I’M OBSESSED WITH THIS TRILOGY. the narrator is amazing — i want him to narrate every book i read. the author is an EPIC storyteller. I am in love with so many different characters. I would recommend this to any one who loves norse inspired/viking stuff and anyone who loves high fantasy. These books are everything I love about high fantasy. There’s never a full
moment. It’s exciting, the battle scenes are so well written, you feel like you’re really there.

I had to listen to the first book again before I was able to understand and remember some of the story. But ohh boy was that worth it!

Okra the skull spliter is my favorite!! Non stop action and very captivating. Can't wait for the next book!

This is a great series, I will definitely buy the next book and look for any other fantasy series by John Gwynne. It’s so refreshing to read an adult series that isn’t about a juvenile boy. The world is well built, the magic system is based on (I think) old Icelandic Sagas. I love the richness of the characters, I found myself wondering wether I was rooting for the wrong team more than once. This book shows a disturbing exploration of slavery and the need for some sort of control over unbridled power. The author writes leadership, loyalty and fellowships with all the scars and blemishes. I truly enjoyed the two strong female characters and a thrall’s transition back into a respected thoughtful, strong man. For me, this book is one of the best fantasy books of the last ten years.

Great story with compelling characters and gripping scenes between the five different point of views! Colin Mace does an excellent job portraying character emotion and bringing the story to life! Highly recommend for those who enjoy gritty, action packed, fantasy novels.
