Publisher's Summary

Christopher Argent lives in the shadows as the empire's most elite assassin. Emotion is something he tossed away years ago, making him one of the most clear-eyed, coldhearted, wealthiest, and therefore untouchable men in London.

But when his latest target turns out to be London's own darling, Millicent LeCour, Christopher's whole world is turned upside down. Overwhelmed by her stunning combination of seduction and innocence, Christopher cannot complete the mission. She has made him feel again. Now he will do anything to save her life, so he can claim her as his own....

When Millie learns what Christopher was hired to do, she is torn between the fear in her heart and the fire in her soul. Putting herself in this notorious hunter's arms may be her only path to safety - even if doing so could be the deadliest mistake she's ever made. But how can she resist him? As the heat between her and Christopher burns out of control, danger lurks in the shadows. Is their desire worth the risk? Only the enemy knows what fate has in store....

Action, romance and mystery all in one

It was a very good read. Liked the hero's character though an unlikely one for a romance book. KB did a fabulous job showing how he became a respectable man and made it very believable. Tough job well done. The villain's character was a bit predictable as to whom it was but don't let that deter you. Still a lovely romance.

Everyone Loves A Strong Silent Alpha Male

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Definitely!

What other book might you compare The Hunter to and why?

Darkest Before Dawn, by Maya Banks ... Hancock is another Villain/Hero. Personally I like these type of men. They fight evil the only way they know how, single-handed. They give no quarter, trust no one, & are totally shocked to learn they have a heart.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Christopher Argent was begging Millie to wake and he proceeds to spill his heart to her.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If only I could. But I've already listened to it three times this year.

Any additional comments?

I cried for the boy who lost his Mother. I got caught up in the thrill of the hunt. I feared for the damsel in distress. Finally, I loved the man who found his way to the light.

Disappointing-Warning:Mild spoilers in the review.

First of all, the narrator does an fine job. He has good inflection and differeniates the voices well. I find his voice a little too stiff and plummy but it did not affect my listening abilities.

I read my first book by this author and really enjoyed "The Highwayman" (abbrev THWYMN by me). I was enthusiastically looking forward to this novel. Unfortunately, it was a great disappointment to me.

In order to explain the difference in opinion, the male lead (Dorian) and female lead loved each other as children in THWYMN. Not only was Dorian portrayed as still having a spark of innocence as well as the ability to love but he attempts to defend the female child lead and stays loyal to her in his heart over the next 17 years while trying to find her. I always felt that violence and brutality was a means to an end to Dorian and not done gratuitously.

On the other hand, the author paints Christopher as being cold and murderous. She describes Christopher's enjoyment for murdering people while attaining a feeling of control and the methods he prefers. Furthermore, he is mercenary; coldly concerned about what he will be paid but not caring about the reason for act. The singular saving grace is that he will not rape women (oh, but murder is ok) or kill children. He is even described as becoming angry for receiving a wet slap from Millie (the female romantic lead) while he attempts to murder her in the bathtub. Frankly, he seems repulsive and insane to me. I made it to Chapter 8 where they begin to angrily express their physical attraction to each other. At this point, it seemed to me that Millie was TSTL and possibly insane as well. I stopped reading and DNF since I found them both irredeemable and really didn't care what happened to them. Now I will have to take a bath in order to remove the figurative slime I felt while listening to the disgusting thoughts of an assassin.

I don't know if I will consider another book by this writer. After all, there are so many good books and so little time!

Breathless!

What about Derek Perkins’s performance did you like?

I could listen to Derek Perkin's all day, everyday. I can see in my mind every mood, every character. He is awesome.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Too bad I had to sleep or I would have done this in one setting.

Just get it!!

Love the story! Just like the first book at times it is hard and harsh but who cares when everything fall into place.
Captivated me from start to finish!
Christopher Argent is one hard SOB that only Millie can soften.
Now on to the third book.

Derek Perkins does a good job of it, I really like his voice.
