Publisher's Summary
They’re locked up for your safety.
Now, you’re locked in with them.
Dr Connie Woolwine has five days to catch a killer.
On a locked ward in the world’s highest-security prison hospital, a scream shatters the night. The next morning, a nurse’s body is found and her daughter has been taken. A ransom must be paid, and the clock is ticking.
Forensic profiler Dr Connie Woolwine is renowned for her ability to get inside the mind of a murderer. Now, she must go deep undercover among the most deranged and dangerous men on earth and use her unique skills to find the girl – before it’s too late.
But as the walls close in around her, can Connie get the killer before The Institution gets her?
A claustrophobic, haunting crime thriller that will keep you up at night, perfect for those who loved The Sanatorium and Amy McCulloch’s Breathless.
What the critics say
"Brilliant! The Institution is a harrowing, nonstop story that will grab you from the first page and not let go. You’ll consume it in one sitting." (Bestselling sensation Jeffery Deaver)
"Quite simply, wow! One of the best high concept thrillers I've read in forever. I can't decide which is my favourite character, Dr. Connie Woolwine, or the Institution itself."( New York Times bestseller Lisa Gardner)
"Dark and atmospheric with some brilliantly horrific characters and some excellent twists. Compelling and unputdownable." (Catherine Cooper)

I am a fan of Helen Fields. There is a substantive style to her writing. This book was suspenseful and interesting. At points, the storyline was anxiety inducing, but a few unresolved endings remained.

Solid story with new characters
I've been a fan of Helen Fields and her other novels. This one takes a break from her other, well established characters to introduce us to a new set.
The characters are interesting and generally well-rounded, with a solid plot with a couple of small points that I found to be distracting, but overall, quite the story.
I enjoyed the characters who were very flawed, but each given their own unique balance of good vs. evil.

So disappointing. I feel like I've wasted hours of my life listening to this ridiculous story. I can't believe I didn't stop 15 minutes in.
