Sweet, Dated, Static Novel With Forgotten Ideals..

This book was written around 2004. It was a Harlequin Presents, which at that time came in the mail every month and you only paid for the books that you didn’t send back. It was never intended to be a great novel, and the reader needs to approach it in that light. The heroines are written often very submissive and less worldly and the heroes often beat their chests to express emotion. It is silly in its over-intensity, but a novel to be read when you just need a formulaic sitcom that you can depend on. The reader isn’t a professional and the writer is likely limited in awareness of the overall world, and often writes from imagination and a specific perspective. Traditional Harlequins are a lost heritage. They were a novel to take you into excitement and someone else’s imagination.

This book is about Gianna, a twenty-three year old virgin, who has had a crush on Rico, her protector, since she was 10 years old. After Rico is paralyzed in an accident, Rico sees Gianna’s devotion and wants her with him. So Rico marries Gianna. The rest of the novel is a comedy of errors and assumptions. It is a novel where you can predict the end from the beginning. It is a fun read when real life has burned you out, and you just need a little escapism. I liked this story because I knew what I was getting in an early Harlequin novel and wanted it.
