As a preteen, I read this book and loved it. I haven’t read it in years, but it still captivates. Beautiful imagery. Beautiful personification of animals. Brilliant (if somewhat unguided) exploration of what separates people and animals, and good and bad. This book is timeless.

Book one is the story Disney made the animated story about. I enjoyed both but the book is not of course not the same as the cartoon, but that is to be expected.

Book two is a bunch of different short stories. Would be good for bedtime stories.

I absolutely love this story compilation, but the narrator didn't really spark much emotion, and didn't really stay that faithful to the written punctuation and inflections of the story.

I have been loving listening to all the original stories of the children’s movies and books I read as a child. This did not disappoint. Incredible job writing from the animals perspective. Really feels like you are in an Indian jungle.
