Publisher's Summary

Denver detective Jake McCoy is trying to recover - both physically and emotionally - from the shooting death of a young boy that also left her injured. She soon finds herself rehabbing at her cabin in the mountains, soaking in the remote natural springs - which is exactly where psychologist Nicole Westbrook vacations and soon stumbles across her....

When Nicole leaves the next day, the two women know little more about the other than her first name - yet they are now lovers instead of strangers.

When Jake returns to Denver, a serial murder investigation soon leads her to Nicole. As the investigation develops, their physical attraction threatens to compromise the case. Nicole finds herself struggling to remain in the professional closet that she's been hiding in for so long - a place where an out cop like Jake McCoy simply does not belong.

Once the crimes are solved, will the women go their separate ways? Or will the physical attraction and the gentle tug of love prove that opposites do attract....

50 shades of gray quality

I was so disappointed by this book! there are so many good reviews- I thought the romance would be secondary to the action, but this is 50 shades of gray with some murder/ crooked cops in a loose story in the background. The narrator does a good job and the plot was coherent enough to keep me listening (since I paid for it) but WOW is the writing bad. The number of times I heard “she’s not your type” “Jesus, I’m a cop for God’s sake” and “her eyes captured hers” made it VERY hard to keep listening. If you want some sex/romance poorly written with some exciting crime plot in the background , fine. If you want anything other than that- skip it.

Good book but...

Tiny Spoilers. Some of the story is definitely cringeworthy. The love story is almost as cringeworthy. I enjoyed the criminal aspect of it but the details are very uncomfortable.
Nicole is pretty awful. Especially at the end. This woman Jake saves her life and she just lets her limp away. Literally. I’m a lesbian and I would never ever let a sexy hero cop leave me. F every single thing else. The love story drags near the end. Completely frustrating. Because I listened to The Target first, I know how it ends. I rolled my eyes multiple times in the last hour. Sorry for the negative comments just be prepared.

Loved it!

I loved The Killing Room. Yes, I admit, it's not pretty. But it will hold your attention and keep you wondering. I loved the interaction between Jake and Nicole. Abby Craden is one of the best narrators in the business.

Excellent!

I read The Killing Room years ago when it first came out and I loved it. Now on audio and narrated by Abby Craden? This was as exciting as a newly published Gerri Hill book.

Loved this book!

To say that I loved this book is really not enough.
There were nail biting moments as the murder mystery unfolded with twists I didn't see coming. The descriptions of the mountains, hot springs and woodland areas were awesome. The characters developed like a fine wine sipped by an open fire. Jake and Nicole were amazing together. I looked up the original publication date (2006) when I thought about lesbians being closeted vs now that they are more free from much of the discrimination of just the few years that have passed. The freedom to marry has made a world of difference.
I highly recommend this book for both romance and mystery.

Narrator voices

The only complaint I have is that the narrator’s voice for one of the female characters is so deep that when she moves to male characters, it sounds straining and uncomfortable to listen too. It also makes it hard to hear.

The combination of great story and great narration

Gerri Hill never disappoints her books are so good and this one is one of the best.
Someone said to me that even the phone book will be great if Abby Craden will narrate it so when you have this combination it is a bliss
Looking forward to the 3 new Gerri Hill books I have in my library

wowza

genuinely loved this book. it's not often you find a romance that has an actual plot past the main characters. wish I could wipe my memory and listen to it all over again

It could be shorter

The mystery part was ok. The love story could use less angst. One of the MCs going back and forth about how her love interest does not fit into her life. A very infantile approach for a woman of her education. This way, a reader does not have to suffer for chapters and chapters of the same conversations and thought processes.
The narrator could improve her male voices - all mail characters sound like they are about to break into tears.

one of her best!

A great mystery with some unexpected twists. And Craden, as always, lends her talents with an all-star "cast"!
