Publisher's Summary

The Lakota Way received the prestigious Audie Award, considered the "Oscar" award of the audiobook industry, in 2004 for the category of best inspirational audio.

The myth of Deer Woman teaches a lesson on respect. The legend of Crazy Horse illuminates a lesson on humility. And the story of Eagle brings home the importance of compassion. These stories from the heart of Lakota culture and its survival, and their meanings, still resonate deeply with our daily lives.

Rich with storytelling, history, folklore, and Marshall's own personal experiences, The Lakota Way expresses the heart of Native American philosophy and the 12 core qualities that are crucial to the Lakota way of living: bravery, fortitude, generosity, wisdom, respect, honor, perseverance, love, humility, sacrifice, truth, and compassion.

Compelling and profound, The Lakota Way gives a fresh outlook to those searching for a new perspective on spiritual and ethical living.

Worth the time invested

I found this book a valuable source of Lakota interpretation of life’s journey and lessons derived from many stories and parables. Mr. Marshall’s narrative projects a humble approach to respect and reaction to challenges facing choices we encounter every day. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will endeavour to employ the knowledge and wisdom presented in this book. Thank you.

Amazing read

I loved how the short stories/legends were told in a way like you’re there in the story watching. I listened to this audio while beading and it was so empowering realizing how native people are reconnecting to culture in such a beautiful way. Reclaiming our culture is proof that our ancestors prayers are so powerful. I am a Plains Cree Native Woman from Whitefish, Saskatchewan Canada. I’m learning about the Lakota ways and it’s very inspiring seeing the similarities and differences with Cree. Hiy Hiy Joseph M. Marshall! I’ll definitely be reading more of your books!

Amazing book, I’ll listen again and again.

Simple stories full of wisdom and truly spiritually enlightening. Joseph Marshall is an excellent writer, story teller and narrator. He talks about the ways of the Lakota people in such a beautiful way — though at times it’s hard to listen to the hardships they endured, they still stand strong. This is an excellent book and one I will surely listen to egos n. Thanks ! Mitakuye Oyasin
