Publisher's Summary

This collected edition of the Antarktos Saga includes all five books in the series - Descent, Pursuit, Ascent, Lament, and Onslaught. More than 35 hours of pulse-pounding audio written by the New York Times and number one Audible best-selling author Jeremy Robinson and narrated by the best-selling and award-winning narrator R.C. Bray.

Description:

I’ve been told that the entire continent of Antarctica groaned at the moment of my birth. The howl tore across glaciers, over mountains, and deep into the ice. Everyone says so. Except for my father; all he heard was Mother's sobs. Not of pain, but of joy, so he says. Other than that, the only verifiable fact about the day I was born is that an iceberg the size of Los Angeles broke free from the ice shelf, a few miles off the coast. Again, some would have me believe the fracture took place as I entered the world. But all that really matters, according to my parents, is that I, Solomon Ull Vincent, the first child born on Antarctica - the first and only Antarctican - was born on September 2, 1974.

If only someone could have warned me that upon my return to the continent of my birth, 13 years later, I would be kidnapped, subjected to tortures beyond comprehension, and forced to fight...and kill. If only someone had hinted that I'd wind up struggling to survive in a subterranean world full of ancient warriors, strange creatures, and supernatural powers.

Had I been warned, I might have lived a normal life. The human race might have remained safe. And the fate of the world might not rest on my shoulders. Had I been warned....

This is my story - the tale of Solomon Ull Vincent - the last hunter.

Generic as they come.

A prophesied chosen one, a great evil, and rise to greatness and a final deciding battle. Not very original at all. The characters are the only thing from making this more than mediocre and just barely. The narrator pulls it from the brink of awful. Christian pulp fantasy where every other belief system is perverted into murdering and torturing monsters bent on human annihilation. Sad.

Better than I expected…

Sure, you could say that it’s generic, but it ignores what good story telling does; captivate. It’s a bit comic book-y, but I didn’t exactly come here for the bisque; but you’ll stay for the roasted egg monster.

It would make for a helluva series, be it animated or live.
Thanks J.R. & R.C.B. for another really fun listen.
Kudos.

(p.s. fledging writers would do well to learn how all characters, be they heel or baby face, can be enjoyed in equal measure in context of the story they inhabit; free of blatant ideological posturing like one was trying feculent fois gras out of our brains through our respective eye/ear holes. )

Too much? Maybe I’m just hungry…

Well rounded

I went in a bit hesitant but was quickly engrossed in the story. Consistent character introductions, development, and growth through the entire series with a narration that seemed to grow with the characters. Enough depth to make you think but fantastic enough to not drag you down into the characters internal struggles. Series moved along in a well thought out story that kept my wandering attention span wanting more.

an epic tale to challenge all others

this series is a true marvel. full of adventure, mythology, magical moments and deep family ties. I challenge you to find another that can even stand up to this. I laughed, I screamed, I cried and I loved. thank you Mr.Robinson, thank you.

a slight spoiler: the end battle was unbelievable, it was epic, it was full of ups and downs...and I truly believe it was better than the Avengers Endgame battle. I would LOVE to see this on screen, but am happy to settle for the movie that played out in my head.

Not my typical choice

I stumbled upon this story looking for a longer audible book, the story puts a different twist on our history of Greek mythology and brings it into today's timeline.

In the end, it kept my attention enough to keep wanting to find out what happens next. I liked that the story was not too predictable. Great deal getting the entire series for one credit.

What a great story!

This series caught me by surprise. Takes a few chapters to get going but by the end of the first book, you're hooked.
This could easily become a hit action/adventure movie series.
I highly recommend this to any age group that enjoys a great adventure with a satisfying ending.

Silly But Fun

Jeremy Robinson is never going to win any Nebula or Hugo awards, but provides some imaginative (if cartoonish) entertainment. These books are undoubtedly YA Fantasy - but don't give in *completely* to the "morally unimpeachable, misunderstood, secretly super-powerful, hormonally confused, angtsy teenager" protagonist conventions. If you're okay with moderately juvenile storytelling (with some heavyhanded Judeo-Christian themes), this book is an enjoyable rollercoaster-ride of Comic-Book-like action.

• Book One ('Descent') follows stereotypically "wimpy" 13-year-old genius-with-a-photographic-memory Solomon Ull Vincent as he returns to the land of his birth (Antarctica) and learns of his destiny.. setting up the overall story-arc plot: an epic struggle between a 'Namor'- like character (powerful as long as he is on Antartica like the Marvel hero touching water) and the giant half-demon/half-mortal biblical Nephilim (the true identity of the Greek, Egyptian, Roman, Sumerian, and Norse Gods of myth).
Solomon is captured and sequestered underground, loses his memories, is trained as a primitive/savage 'Hunter', and then regains his human persona.. ultimately rebelling and deciding to fight on our side in the coming confrontation between the "Gods" and civilization
• Book Two ('Pursuit') has the Nephilim trying to recapture the schizophrenic Solomon [holding internal arguments with his savage side ('Ull') and teaming up with some clones of himself, for example], as he demonstrates his underlying moral "goodness" & tries to find an escape from the under-the-ice "Lost World" (complete with giant insects and dinosaurs) in which he's trapped
• 'Ascent' describes Sol/Ull's banishment and escape from Tartarus (yes, that Tartarus) - meeting Kronos and rejoining rebel Hunters on a newly-relocated equatorial Antarctica to prepare for the coming climactic confrontation
• In Book Four ('Lament'), Solomon's Hunters team up with machine gun & grenade-armed International Special Forces troops (for some reason) and take on Nephilim in the caves of Mount Olympus/The Garden Of Eden on a mission to recover a magic horn that will allow them to figuratively "bring down the walls of 'New Jericho'" (I know, right?🙄)
• 'Onslaught' chronicles the final battle between Solomon and his Hunter/Military Allies against a huge army (~1,000,000) of near-immortal Nephilim. Robinson scripts the combat nicely, but drops the ball somewhat. Oddly-timed attempts at writing Romantic/Sex Scenes, tension-sapping resurrections of dead characters (no-one important is at risk of dying *yawn*), and giving more and more powers to an already overpowered MC combine to yield a disappointing finale.

R.C. Bray provides a typically outstanding reading - and (in the first few books, at least) uses voice modulation technology for demonic characters to surprisingly good effect (I'm not generally a fan of this intervention in audiobooks - it too often results in something that sounds overproduced - but it works uncommonly well in this case.. complementing Bray's spot-on performance to yield a cinematic experience). Breakneck Media delivers a commendable listening product.

I feel fortunate to have gotten this series of books as a 'Daily Deal'. 'The Last Hunter' too often flirts with "stoopid".. but this 6.5/10-star offering is unlikely to rot your brain too badly (just don't make Robinson's stuff a habit).
The $7.34CDN I paid was worth it for a number of quiet afternoons of mindless distraction. Paying full price for this straight-up brain candy would be indefensible - but if you likewise stumble on a sale, go for it.

This deserves to be a series of movies!

I am so happy that I finally have the Collected Edition. I have loved all of the books within for years. Jeremy Robinson is an amazing author and even though these books are labeled YA for young adult, count my 40- something bum in as a giant fan. I have always loved stories that could be possible, and here we are confronted with the possibility that the ice in the Antarctic melts and reveals that there is a whole ecosystem that has survived for millennia. Not only that, but the young hero of the story finds himself there and of course in trouble. Lots of trouble. Add to that a dash of legendary beings that should not exist, and as the book title says...The Last Hunter... has his hands full.

RC Bray happens to be one of my favorite readers, and hey, will you look at that...an amazing reader reading a book that is full of shock and awe and adventure and I can guarantee a good time!

Epic Thriller

Jeremy Robinson kills it with this epic adventure!!
Guaranteed, you will never look at Antarctica kn your map the same way!! Have you ever seen pictures and wondered what could be under all that ice?
Well, let Jeremy tell you his view!!
From the very first sentence, to the last of the series, Jeremy keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Hes able to make the characters come alive in away that makes you feel they could be close friends, or even relatives. You will be rooting for the good guys as if they were your own flesh and blood, and feel devastating whenever the bad guys get an upper hand..

oh, and with R.C.Bray at the mike, you're in for an audio adventure like never before!

Definitely not for me!

I got four hours in and had to stop! I tried three different times to listen, thinking maybe it was my mood that was not allowing me to like this book, but nope, it was just the book.
The narration was awful and the story was just not interesting. It actually started out pretty decent, aside from the narration, but then it just plummeted.
I know I’m listening to a good book when I’m excited to press play and look forward to being transformed to another world. But it wasn’t the case for this book. It became just noise in the background. Two thumbs down for this one!

Great Series

Very original series with the best narrator in the business. I wasn't sure what to expect, but knew it had to be great because of the team of Robinson and Bray putting this out. It did lean towards the YA genre at the beginning, but I feel like it made a leap towards the end of book one to the science fiction/fantasy world where it stays.

Solomon is unlike any other character from any other book that I have ever read. He can be soft, shy and awkward in one form and fierce, unrelenting and feared in the other. Seeing Solomon try to fight his natural instincts and how he struggles being caught between two worlds is amazing. The author could not have written this any better and even though I already have four other books written by Jeremy Robinson, I will definitely put the rest of his at the top of my wish list/next to read.

An instant classic

I had previously listened to The Last Hunter as 5 separate books, but having it all in one place makes it even more perfect.

Following the traumas and adventures of Solomon, the first person to be born on Antarctica, The Last Hunter is a fast-paced, action-packed ride through the Underworld, the underbelly of Antarctica, and on top into the known world. While often fun and inducing laughs, there are also moments of great sadness and tragedy, resulting in an expertly crafted story that will run you through the gamut of emotions.

A great story by Jeremy Robinson that has been superbly narrated by RC Bray!

A New Mythology

Robinson has created a new mythology out of the shreds and patches out of several others. Taking liberally from both Hebrew / Christian and norse traditions, a strange new tale of a buried world emerges.
JR is in peak form when it comes to engaging the reader and keeping the action and mysteries coming, and this book is easily shared with the whole family, while not feeling restrained by the confines of a targeted audience.
RC Bray narrates to near perfection using distinct voices for every character.
A MUST LISTEN for any Robinson fan as many things from these books recur and are referenced in his stable of works.

The definitive Robinson series

These are without doubt the best books Jeremy Robinson has ever written. the storyline is phenomenal. Soloman is one of the greatest individual characters I have ever gotten to know in a novel. R.C Bray, as usual, does a masterful job.

Could not finish

I don't know if it was me or this book but I could not get into the story. There were parts when I thought OK here we go, it's finally getting into something good but then it would veer off into some mystical BS that adds nothing to the story. When I looked and seen I had 18 hours left and still did not care what happened I marked it as completed and went looking for something else. RC Bray even sounded like reading this was a chore, not his usual self and It hurts me to say this as I am a fan. I hope you have better luck with this one.
