Publisher's Summary

An Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestseller.

Three sisters' secrets collide in a shocking novel of suspense by the bestselling author of the Mercy Kilpatrick series.

Twenty years ago Emily Mills's father was murdered, and she found his body hanging in the backyard. Her younger sister, Madison, claims she was asleep in her room. Her older sister, Tara, claims she was out with friends. The tragedy drove their mother to suicide and Tara to leave town forever. The killer was caught. The case closed.

Ever since, Emily and Madison have tried to forget what happened that night - until an eerily similar murder brings it all back. It also brings FBI special agent Zander Wells to the Oregon logging town. As eager as he is to solve the brutal double slaying, he is just as intrigued with the mystery of Emily's and her sisters' past.

When more blood is shed, Zander suspects there's a secret buried in this town no one wants unearthed. Is it something Emily and Madison don't know? Or aren't telling? And Tara? Maybe Emily can't bear to find her. Because when Tara disappeared, she took a secret of her own with her.

It was ok

I am not normally a huge fan of detective stories, but this one sounded so good. This is more of a mystery than a thriller or romantic suspense. Actually, there is not really romance at all. There are relationships, but very limited romance. As a romance reader, I did not miss the romance in this one though and it worked without it. This story deals with racial issues, hate crimes, the KKK, murders, and more. I think it is important to know this going in as I had no clue that this was the direction the story was going to take. This story follow several murders that currently happened and also one that occurred twenty years prior. I really like that this story is told in present tense. We still get information from the past with limited flashbacks, but it is intertwined with the present day. The information really worked all together. I really liked wanting to know what happened years ago and recently to Shawn and Lindsey. This did drag a little for me around the half way point. Otherwise, it was a pretty good paced story that kept my interest. I wanted to know how everything was going to unfold. This definitely took a different direction than I was expecting.

Disappointed

THE LAST SISTER is not nearly as good as Kendra Elliot's other novels and novellas. This is her first novel that I found boring.

was so happy to see a new KE novel out. i think the narrators ruined it for me. story was real good & I was shocked at the reveal but the narrators made it hard to listen to. PLEASE find better narrative for rest of series!

Not a Thriller

A couple of things bothered me about this book. One was the performance. Although neither of the readers were bad, in fact, they were both pretty good, separately, However, they both spoke for the same characters and I didn't care for it. I would like the voice of one character from one reader and not the other and vice versa. The other thing is that i didn't really find this to be a thriller. It was a story that for all intents and purposes was just a slide down to the ending which I didn't find to be all that surprising. Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Loved the book, with a few exceptions....

The storyline was great, but the male narrator was very irritating as he tried to impersonate female voices. it was quite insulting. There were some one liners and word context that would be hard to imagine anyone actually saying. Overall, the book itself was very good. It would be hard to believe that family's keep those kind of secrets.

A waste of my money and time!

I felt this book was weak. I did not feel invested in the characters or the plot. The writing was underwelming. I will not read another book by this author. A waste of my audible credits.

Disappointed

I waited so long for this audible book. I was so disappointed. The story line flowed so poorly. Zander deserved better & the audible narrative just didn’t do Zander justice. This book had different narrators. This was a struggle to get thru😱.

Riveting thriller!

Emily Mills had the misfortune of discovering the bodies of her friend/employee and her husband. When the local sheriff declares it a murder suicide, the adamant Emily calls the Portland field office of the FBI. When Agent Zander Wells and his partner arrives in the small Oregon coastal town, he has to agree that the ‘suicide’ looks more like a hate crime. After all, the victim, an African American male, was found hanging in his yard with white supremacists symbols etched into his skin. This is eerily similar to the murder of Emily’s father 20yrs ago. That was when Emily’s loving family fell apart...when her mother committed suicide and her older sister left town. Who is behind these new murders, and what’s the motive? Can Agent Wells and Emily get to the truth before the killer gets to Emily?

Uneven performance but good story

The plot is very engaging and not at all predictable. The main characters are also engaging. The drawback is the inconsistency in the narration, especially when a different narrator takes over Emily’s voice. The substitute is jarring and doesn’t fit Emily’s character.

5 star without the cursing.

This book was my first by this author. The story was great and kept me totally interested. But I would have given 5 stars of she'd just left out the cursing. It was not as bad a a lot of authors. Some authors use cursing as a book filler imo. Ms Elliot didn't too this. She's a great writer.
