INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“This eerie thriller…can stand next to Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House and Stephen King’s The Shining.” —Booklist (starred review)

New York Times bestselling author Megan Miranda returns with a gripping and propulsive thriller that opens with the disappearance of a journalist who is investigating a string of vanishings in the resort town of Cutter’s Pass—will its dark secrets finally be revealed?

Ten years ago, Abigail Lovett fell into a job she loves, managing The Passage Inn, a cozy, upscale resort nestled in the North Carolina mountain town of Cutter’s Pass. Cutter’s Pass is best known for its outdoor offerings—rafting and hiking, with access to the Appalachian trail by way of a gorgeous waterfall—and its mysterious history. As the book begins, the string of unsolved disappearances that has haunted the town is once again thrust into the spotlight when journalist Landon West, who was staying at the inn to investigate the story of the vanishing trail, then disappears himself.

Abby has sometimes felt like an outsider within the community, but she’s come to view Cutter’s Pass as her home. When Landon’s brother Trey shows up looking for answers, Abby can’t help but feel the town closing ranks. And she’s still on the outside. When she finds incriminating evidence that may bring them closer to the truth, Abby soon discovers how little she knows about her coworkers, neighbors, and even those closest to her.

Megan Miranda brings her best writing to The Last to Vanish, a riveting thriller filled with taut suspense and shocking twists that will keep you guessing until the very end.

Fairly standard "who done it"

Lots of plot twists at the end, so I definitely didn't figure out the culprit, but I did feel that some of it kinda fell into place too neatly for it to be realistic. The narrator was painfully boring with little to no intonation or variation from character to character. Still, it was a good read.

Decent story

Was a decent story and had an excellent reader. It was just a bit slow in the middle. Great ending.

Great story. Horrible narration

I love this author and was so excited about this book. The narrator almost ruined it for me. It was awful. I’ve listened to 63 books so far this year and nothing compares to this. It was not narrated at all. As others have said it feels like she sat down and read the book totally monotone. I will never listen listen to another book by this narrator. So disappointed.

Disappointed

Was super excited for this book and bought it on pre -release. I've read every one of Megan's books and loved them reading them in 1-3 days. She is one of my favorite authors. That said this book was a disappointment.

The narrator was horrible and mono toned. I loved Rebekka as her reader. The story itself was hard to get into. It was super slow til about 1/2 way in the book. She of course surprises you with the who dunnit.

Really unfortunate narrator

I tried to start this book 3 times over the past year, but the narrator's AI-style voice prevented me from being able to follow the story. She isn't telling a story. She isn't even reading a book. She's being shown words and she's just saying them. She is so clearly not present in the telling, totally lacking any appropriate inflection. On my third try, I tried listening at 1.1x and it became just listenable enough to make it through the book. The story was great, so many cool little clues, claustrophobic setting that draws you in... but the narration prevents me from recommending buying this as an audiobook. I enjoyed the other audiobooks by this author but I see that her newest title also uses this narrator, so I won't be buying it. I hope authors read these reviews, because it's a total shame to lose readers/listeners due to bad narration.

I wanted it to be amazing

The story was both dull, and dry. I was really hoping for a better thrill from it. Alex did a wonderful job narrating, her voice is lovely, I might take a look for more books narrated by her.
