Publisher's Summary

As close as you can get to sitting one-on-one with world-renowned leadership expert John C. Maxwell, here he shares the most important lessons he’s learned about the leadership development process over the last quarter century.

"Highly recommended!" (Joel Peterson, chairman of JetBlue Airways)

What is the greatest return on a leader’s time?

After leaders have invested in their own leadership growth, what is the best way to accomplish their vision and grow their organizations? Develop leaders! The more leaders an organization has and the better equipped they are to lead, the more successful the organization and all of its leaders.

Number one New York Times best-selling author John C. Maxwell is often identified as the most influential leadership expert in the world. In the last 25 years, he has grown from equipping a handful of leaders in one organization to developing millions of business, government, and nonprofit leaders in every country around the world.

In The Leader’s Greatest Return, Maxwell shares the most important lessons he’s learned about the leadership development process over the last quarter century. He instructs listeners in how to:

  • Recognize potential leaders
  • Attract leaders by creating a leadership “table”
  • Work themselves out of a job by equipping and empowering leaders
  • Position leaders to build a winning team
  • Coach leaders to higher levels and make them leadership developers themselves

This is where leaders really experience the compounding value of developing leaders and go to the highest levels of leadership themselves.

Anyone who wants to take the next step in their leadership, build their organization or team today, and create their legacy for tomorrow needs to listen to The Leader’s Greatest Return

What the critics say

"Highly recommended! In my experience, the ability to identify and develop leaders is a critical trait to any high-performing business. John Maxwell skillfully lays the groundwork on how to create a virtuous cycle where leaders are developed and then encouraged to foster new leaders." (Joel Peterson, chairman of JetBlue Airways)

"John Maxwell hits the nail on the head in The Leader's Greatest Return. Much of our long-term success at Paychex has stemmed from our ability to attract, hire, and develop great leaders. I highly recommend this book for leaders seeking to develop this essential characteristic in their own organization." (Thomas Golisano, founder and chairman of the board, Paychex, Inc.)

"Rachel and I are living examples of John's belief in the compounding value of developing leaders. By sitting at John's leadership development table, we've been able to expand our own organization by developing the leaders who will carry The Hollis Co. forward." (Dave Hollis, CEO, The Hollis Co. and author of Get Out of Your Own Way)

Instant Classic

This is one of the best books I’ve ever listened to in the personal development and leadership category. John Maxwell has a relaxed story teller kind of voice that’s very easy to listen to.

The Best Maxwell Audiobook-With Bonus Content!

I’ve listened to (or read) most of John Maxwell’s books and I think I enjoyed this one the most.

First, he, the author is reading the book. Some of his books are read by others - and this is okay - but having John read lends much to the overall delivery and impact of the content.

Second, the content is superb! I know some of his books overlap in content to some degree. But for me, when a teacher instructs on a topic, it becomes more refined and rich as time progresses. It’s the same with this book.

Last, and most importantly, there is bonus content in the audiobook which is not found in the published work. After each chapter, John delivers a “fireside chat” of sorts, recapping the content and discussing what it has meant to him personally. Great stuff!!

A walk down memory lane

I respect John Maxwell, but this feels more like
listening to him reminisce and think about leadership than a book to guide other leaders. I listened to about 50% of the book. I didn’t finish it but tried several times to keep going thinking it may get to be something that had a new, interesting idea in it.

I loved it

Excellent book as usual by John
I liked the Compounding Return concept
New learning from John every time I listen to his book

But better for John to avoid talking about his personal faith in his books. We love his wisdom as we see it from our own faith.

Thanks a lot to the great leader John C. Maxwell

seemed as he talked a lot about himself in the book but his voice and demeanor are sweet. i have read several so it was a little repetitive, but still had great points amd take aways.
