À propos de cet audio
Lena Daelyra has survived by following two rules: never let anyone find out what she is and never wield her powers. After all, Mages are hunted for sport and have no laws to protect them. Staying alive means keeping to herself in the gritty outskirts of the kingdom of Otacia. Until the day a job gone awry lands Lena in ruthless hands, only to be saved by Quill Callon, a handsome swordsman from the wealthy Inner Ring. As Quill begins to train Lena to defend herself, her growing feelings for him serve as a cruel reminder that to reveal what she is would only be a death sentence.
Crown Prince Silas La’Rune has been a prisoner inside his own castle since he was five years old—after the murder of his younger sister. But the day he manages to escape the changes everything.
Tragedy rips Lena away from the man she has grown to love before she can confess her true identity. Yet, when their paths collide again years later, it’s clear that things will never be the same. And when Lena and other Mages are captured by the kingdom’s bloodthirsty heir bent on exacting punishment, the fate of Magekind will rest on her shoulders.

This book pulled me in slowly with layers of secrets, easy to follow worldbuilding and magic, compelling characters and a dual timeline. I listened to the duet narration audio - Natalie Van Sistine was an excellent Lena, and Kieran Regan took some time to grow on me but I enjoyed him as well (I'm glad he changed his voice between past and present Silas, and really loved his narration of the present Silas).
The story takes places in Otacia, where the kingdom is divided by class (the poor residing in the outer ring, and the elite in the inner) and Mages are hunted. Despite being from different rings, Lena and 'Quill' fall in love. At the end of Part One, Lena learns his true identity and has to flee Otacia to survive. In Part Two, we fast forward 5 years to present day and their reunion is not a happy one when Lena's true identity is revealed, and Silas discovers she's an enemy. Part Two was SO GOOD and really got me hooked!
Some tropes I loved in this one were hidden identities, secret powers, fated mates, and "who did this to you?".
I'll definitely be reading the next book - The Sins of Silas - to find out what happens next!
Hidden identities and a world that pulls you in!
