I love this book and author. I read it many years ago several times. when I saw it in audible I was really excited. but the reading made the characters sound flamboyant and wierd. it was overly enunciated and sing song. made these characters I had come to think of as Uber masculin and strong sound like foppish weirdos. I really hope the other books in the series have a different reader. especially when princess maddie comes into the story. she is the epitome of down to earth. I really don't want her to sound like a Kardashian.

The story is interesting and enjoyable, and I would say well written. The drawback of the audio is the narrators voice. The tone is acceptable but the cadence and emphasis is hard to get used to. He speaks in an up and down manner, sing song like and I find it distracting and detrimental to falling into the story completely. It pulls you out of the storyline to question why he is speaking that way.
Otherwise it is well written and would be an excellent story to read. Perhaps narration by another, or redone with attention paid to the emotion the characters would be expressing while speaking, rather than the sing song.
I would recommend the book

Legends of the Guardian Kings is one of my favorite series, right behind Narnia & Lord of the Rings. I have long wished and hoped for it to be on audio and it was to my great surprise & delight to find book one. I hope the rest come quickly!!

While I think Adam Verner is a good narrator I do not think he was the right choice for this series, I did not feel his voice was masculine enough for Abram. However after I got over the annoyance I was still able to enjoy the story.

Highly recommend overall.
