Publisher's Summary

Upon the cliffs of a remote Scottish island, Lòn Haven, stands a lighthouse.

A lighthouse that weathered more than storms.

Mysterious and terrible events have happened on this island. It started with a witch hunt. Now, centuries later, islanders are vanishing without explanation.

Coincidence? Or curse?

Liv Stay flees to the island with her three daughters, in search of a home. She doesn’t believe in witches, or dark omens, or hauntings. But within months, her daughter Luna will be the only one of them left.

Twenty years later, Luna is drawn back to the place her family vanished. As the last sister left, it’s up to her to find out the truth....

But what really happened at the lighthouse all those years ago?

Not what I expected

It took a few chapters to really get into this book but I’m so glad I kept going! And then I couldn’t stop listening. The way the stories weave together is so well done and the narrators are perfect.

Loved it!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book start to finish! The multiple narrators made it like watching a play or movie... different accents and voices really added to it.

A satisfying read

While I was worried about how many characters there are, the stories brought each person to life along with their perspective. Really enjoyable read and satisfying ending!

Good story - better than ghost woods

Most importantly the story was captivating and interesting and I love that there was effort to explain the mysterious things that happen - not just leaving it open ended like some authors. I do agree with other reviews that it was slow to start and lots of rushed action at the end but really unique story idea and good character building. Definitely worth a listen if you like stories about witches, magic, mystery and the occult. The narrator was great - no complaints there.

Creepy and Dark but with a Good Ending

I loved the ending of this book and the narrators are excellent. The reason I gave the story three stars is that I found 80% of the book to be rather creepy and dark. For me, that brought down the whole mood of the book. I had expected more of a mystery vibe, and there was indeed a mystery at the core of the book, but the creepiness and darkness overwhelmed the mysteriousness. I guess I just prefer a lighter tone to books I am listening to as the real world has more than an adequate amount of darkness for me. One last thing. About four hours in, an entire section is repeated. It is not too long but there is a good 10 minutes which is repeated in full. So no, you are not imagining things when you get to this part.

excellent listen

very VERY good narrating by all the members of the cast, the depth and variety of voices pulled me in and I couldn't stop listening. the story itself might not be for everyone as it jumps around (something I generally hate) but this felt different and necessary because of the story itself weaving together past and present through different characters. deff no retreats and I'll be looking for other books by this author and ABSOLUTELY more by the narrators.

Perfectly Set for Fall

Women accused of witchcraft, burnt by their townsfolk, leaving behind them a curse. A mother and her daughters, seeking answers and peace.
With multiple perspectives and timelines I did find it a little bit hard to follow along with at times. But it was a different take on Witches and curses and had me interested.
Woven with Nordic and Icelandic folklore, witchcraft and a mothers love, this story was a fall season read for sure.

Perfect fall read!

4.5⭐

“Forgiveness is a kind of time travel, only better, because it sutures the wounds of the past with the wisdom of the present in the same moment as it promises a better future.”

This book was the perfect October read with it being atmospheric, mysterious, and spooky as hell. The setting of a creepy lighthouse mixed with the history of witch hunts and haunting folklore made for an engrossing story. The audiobook was especially enjoyable with the different perspectives all having different voice actors to make them distinct.

Definitely pick this one up in time for spooky season!
