Publisher's Summary

The Lily and the Crown is a lesbian scifi romance about daring to risk your heart with someone you shouldn’t.

Ariana “Ari” Geiker lives an isolated life on an imperial space station commanded by her father. The skilled, young botanist rarely leaves her living quarters, where she maintains an elaborate garden. When an imperious older woman is captured from a pirate ship and given to her as a slave, Ariana’s perfectly ordered life is thrown into chaos. Her nameless slave is watchful, intelligent, dangerous, and sexy, and seems to know an awful lot about tactics, star charts, and the dread, marauding pirate queen, Mir.

What happens when the slave also reveals an expertise in seduction to her innocent mistress?

Loved it!

I really enjoyed this book. Angela Dawe did a fantastic job narrating, as always, so I would absolutely recommend the audio version if that’s your cup of tea.

I thought this was a unique take on the ice queen trope, making her a slave to the sweet and innocent younger woman (most ice queen romances that I’ve read have put the IQ in a position of power, so this was unique). The MC was endearing – perhaps because I can relate to some of her quirks and introverted personality – and I thought the choice to voice the book from her innocent and sheltered perspective was a good one, it made for a few entertaining scenes (especially when it came to Sinclair’s infamous hot and steamy bits!). Speaking of hot & steamy…well, it’s HOT & STEAMY – a few scenes were a bit of a kinky surprise, but not in a bad way.

The thing that makes this a 4.5-star for me and not 5 is just that I REALLY wanted to hear a bit of the book from Assistant’s perspective, that’s really it. I would absolutely recommend this one! Just don’t hold your breath (like I did) for even a chapter from Assistant’s POV.

So Satisfying

I adore this book. and Ive read it more than once. The narrator did an amazing job and has an impressive range of vocal acting - you can FEEL the emotions in the two lead characters’ voices. Her excellent narration brought the book deliciously to life. I know I’ll be listening to it again…and again…

The LGBTQ community deserves better

Are we so starved for content as a LGBTQT community, that this stuff is passing as a five star read?

Pure and simple, it is a twink romance. If you could even call it that. With Ds undertones.

And that's cool. But if you're going to write that, then freaking own it! Be who you are instead of trying to hide it under the veneer of a YA sci-fi novel

Because ultimately this is just fluff with marshmallow and then fluff and more fluff on top of that and incredibly if not a more frustrating ( I can't believe I didn't dnf this level) MC who is written so incredibly stupid that it is painful. Yes I get that she's an ingenue, yes I get that she has had a sheltered life but it doesn't mean she's stupid. In fact she is written as someone who is quite smart and intuitive and yet on the flip side her interactions are so stupid. I mean give your freaking audience the benefit of the doubt of not being stupid themselves.

was it intentional, or is it just super fluffy to diverse your attention from the fact that this is not a very smart or well-written story.
